teleconverter quandry ?

Guys,

I'm using a D200 with a Sigma 170 - 500mm DG Apo lens.
Does anyone know of a 2x converter that will still allow autofocus with this set up.?

Any help is gratefully received.

Probably not, depends on what your camera can cope with, apart from the top end Canons, AF runs out above f5.6 so a 2X is going to make your f6.3 into f13, the viewfinder gets a bit gloomy as well, so manual is a challenge, you certainly need good light and a contrasty target, but you can get some shots. This was with a 2X on my Sigma 150-500

Was just trying to push the mm for distant wildlife, birds inparticular.
Even a 1.4x would go past the mark.

Nice shot of the moon. I've captured the 4 Jovian satellites and Titan with the 500mm. I love astronomy. ( www.picturetrail.com/eddiec11 )

Need to save for a f4 lens I reckon then.

I live in Hartlepool, on the north side of the river Tees.
Now theres a light pollution source if ever there was one. I have infact sold up all my astro stuff due to LP, but, still observe with 15x70 bins and mark 1 eyeball.
I join a ship in Marchwood, Hampshire, where I am now. LP isn't too bad compared to what I'm used to. Still ......

Anyway, cheers for the info and hope you get chance of some clear skies for astrophotography.

phoof, you lucky lucky git, try living nr both Lakenheath and Mildenhall USAF bases, might as well be next door to a giant spotlight all night long with other spotlights dancing around all night lol.
Don't know you're born etc etc etc lmao ;)
(At least you can photgraph the causes of your LP, round here you get arrested, or shot :) )
