Teleconverter

Hi all,

I've been looking around for a cheapish second hand teleconverter for use doin g landscape, motorsport and car photography, I found a Canon 2x Teleconverter in a local second hand shop for £60 it looks in good condition but I'm yet to see if I can try it in the shop, is it worth the money?

Make sure it will work with your lenses, Canon TC's are quite limited in that respect and definitely don't work on any of the EF-S range

remember too that with a 2xtc you'll lose 2 stops , and in all probablity your autofocus won't work (unless you start off a with an f2.8 lens or faster)

Right, I have a Canon EF-S III 18-55 and soon to have sigma 70-300

Nathan,

The Canon one are design mainly for L lenses.
Have you consider Kenko ones? but again you will not be able to mount your EF-S.

To be honest, unless you have a very good teleconverter marrying a very nice L lens otherwise the result is not very good at all! I would say spend the money on a monopod or tripod, practice to shoot steady and then just crop your photo to size. You will also find have that extra 2 stops of light ables you to have a faster shutter speed so you are less prone to shakes.

As already indicated Canon tc's will not even fit your lenses due to the protrusion.
On a side not £60 is very cheap for a Canon converter even if it is a very old MkI model. If it is a MkII they generally go for £160 +
