I have the tamron 70-200 and Kenko Pro 300 DGX 1.4x Tc and Pro 300 DG 2x tc.
I find the 1.4x Tc to be great and have no qualms about using it. The 2x tc I find needs good light as I struggle to keep the shutter speed up. It also helps to be able to stop down a little too.
I have only once used them stacked, on a tripod, but on mud trying to photograph flamingoes miles away. There was no wind (possibly a little breeze, but as it was 12 months ago, I can't honestly remember), and on a 190xprob with 486rc2. The image was bouncing around a fair bit in the viewfinder and coupled with it being around 7:30am I struggled to get a high enough shutter speed using an ISO that didn't give too much noise.
1.4x tc:
40D, ISO 400, f6.3, 1/640, 280mm, handheld, cropped
40D, ISO 400, f4, 1/3200, 98mm, handheld, full frame
2x tc:
40D, ISO 1000, f5.6, 1/500, 400mm, handheld (well, elbows resting on a shelf in a hide, but not well braced), quite a large crop if I remember correctly
Can't find any others off hand (my 2x tc is a non reporting one, so checking Exif doesn't help!) Hope that helps though.
