Teleconvertor help required. please

Guys

Im not big into wildlife or birding, but I do like going out and relaxing for a couple of hours, now and again. Currently the longest lens I have is a 70-200mm F2.8 L IS Canon.

Could anyone recommend me a T-Convertor please for this lens, which will fit onto my Canon 1D MkIV, working of course with the above lens, or would the recommendation be, to buy a 400mm lens or longer.

I think moneywise against usage, the T-Con is the way to go, or would I be dissappointed with the results?

Your advice would be greatly appreciated

The 1.4 extender II will take your lens to 98 to 280mm f4, still autofocus, still be weather sealed etc. The 2x will take you to 140-400 f5.6 and again still autofocus and still be weather sealed. The 2x will have a more noticeable effect on IQ though.

I've no experience of the extender iiis but they are meant to be awesome, they are pricey though.

I use a 1.4 extender ii and am very happy with the results.

Depending on budget alternatives are a 100-400 from £800 or so used or any of the primes, eg 400mm 5.6, 300mm 2.8 etc.

you can see the test chart results with different combinations of lenses plus the 1.4 and 2x extenders.

Best to try them out in a real life shot though but it does give you an idea of the effect they have.

I have set it to compare your 70-200 2.8 ISL plus 2X extender against a 400 5.6 L you can change it to the 1.4 extender by clicking the arrow in the box next to the 400mm to the left.

Hmm.. the Kenko is the best regarded 3rd party extender but after looking at your profile and the investment you already have made.....

Google Kenko Pro v Canon converters and that will pull in a few results.
