Telephoto lens (canon L)

Right then, I am looking at getting a new lens, now the 2 in line are as follows...

Canon 70-200mm F4 L is

or

Canon EF 100-400mm F4.5/5.6 L is

I am into shooting motorsport (motorcycles) and i know the 400mm will give me the added distances but the 200mm would be more userable in other areas where as the 400 would be restricted to motorsport ???

What do you guys think !!

How about something in the middle, i.e., Canon 70-300 f4-5.6 L IS USM.

I don't shoot bikes (not really my thing) but love the 70-200f4IS for rallying where you tend to be up close with the cars. With bikes I would have thought the extra reach of the 100-400 would be useful as they are only going to be a small target and to fill a frame with them you're going to need a longer lens than 200mm. I used a 100-400 at Le Mans last year and thought it was very good, if a little bulky for carrying non-stop for 24 hours.

I use the F4IS with a 1.4 converter and it is really good but again I'm not sure if it will be long enough for bikes.

If you post up the circuits you go to then people may be able to post up their pics and say what lens and focal length they used, ive just bought the 70-200 f4L and cant wait till monday to use it for the british rallycross.
