Telephoto Lens Rain Covers

With the good weather seemingly gone, winter fast approaching, and my luck with getting 'a good day' due to run out, I'm on the look out for a rain cover for my Nikon 200-400.

With my previous 'long lens' I purchased a cheap cover from someone who made it to fit. Lovely person, very helpful and cracking customer service. But with the 200-400 I'm looking for something for substantial, as the lens did cost a fair bit.

So I'm after some advice on rain covers, ones people have tried and liked, tried and not liked etc etc. At the moment I'm leaning towards the...

Secondly, and I may have imagined this, is there such a cover that folds down and sits on the end of your ends, maybe on the lens hood, and can be unfolded when rain appears? Or have I misread/seen what someone may have had on their lens hood?

thinktank waterproof covers sit on the end of your lens until you need to unfurl :)

Hazzuh! I didn't realise that. Glad I didn;t imagine it.

I like the other suggestions, they are similar to the cover i have for my previous Sigma 120-400, which I now use for my 70-200 if needed.

I like the idea of having the cover at the end of the lens and then using it when needed, as they can be a bit annoying when they are on, and it's not raining.

Decisions, decisions....

I dont like mine.. cost about 130 quid for the thinktank one plus eyecup ... I have a 400 lens and i need to use two cameras.. switching between two to use the thinktank covered one is a pain to get your hends in :( well not really.. but i need to do it quickly thats the problem

need one for the 70-200 though.. what do you use for that?

As I said, I originally got it for the Sigma 120-400, but after I sold that I kept hold of it for the 70-200, and it was brilliant when I covered a half marathon in Maidenhead and got drenched!!! I'm sure there are better products out there, but this one has served me well.
 
ha right :) I ahve been using CamoMac for a couple of years.. use it on the 400.. far easier than the thinktank :) wanted soemhting else for the 70-200 but might go with them.

Yeah, I can understand that they area easier, when raining, it's just having them there when they are not. So the fold-away-ability :lol:of the Think Tank makes it desirable.
