Hi all

I am in the market for a telephoto lens on quite a budget. I originally was going to go for the Canon 55-250 IS, but I think I'll only eventually end up getting a better one so am thinking of stumping up the money now.

The lenses mentioned are at the very top of my budget so I can't get IS or the wider aperture from the Canon :(

I have read numerous reviews on both lenses and I know both are very good, my question is which should I get? I tend to shoot portrait shots indoors and outdoors although also snap whatever I can really.

Any advice very much welcome, thank you.

That's a really awkward one :)

I have owned both and outdoors I'd take the Canon every time, it's slightly sharper and renders greens so much better (or mine did)

But the Sigma at f2.8 is no slouch, I used one for weddings and it never let me down.

It very much depends on how much you anticipate using the bit between f2.8 and f4.....
