Temporary email files in w7

I have edited an attachment to an email, tried to save it as a word document and seem to have failed. I used to know where tempotrary files were stored but can't find them now in windows 7.

Any suggesteions where I should look?

Did you save the attachment before editing?
In Windows 7, the temp location is usually in:

C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Temp

It is usually hidden though. To show, you have to go to Computer and click Organize > Layout > Menu Bar to show to menu in order to access Tools > Folder Options > View > Show hidden files, folders and drives and perhaps also untick Hide protected operating system files.

I think I did everything right. (Apart from save it as a word doc first!)

It won't always have the same name as the original attachment, so you might be better off downloading a search app like Everything and searching for any files starting with a ~.
Alternatively, can you not edit the original attachment that was sent from/to you?

they wont always be there, generally they can get deleted when the app using them quits. NEVER edit a document straight off an email, save the attachment first.

Searched for the doc using the time it was last modified. Nowt.

Had to re-edit it in the end. It seems like a lot of work, but you've put the thinking time in already!
