Tempted by a 2nd Hand D90 ...

Hi all,

I'm incredibly tempted by a 2nd hand D90 from LCE but its got 40k actuations and whilst this all may be a scare story with no real truth ive heard that 50k is a real milestone for these cameras.

I could just get a new one from Jessops for £549 (with a free tiny video camera , yipee!) but the £150 is too much to ignore.

Thoughts?

The shutter is tested to 100,000, so it should have life left yet. Of course it could go on for 300K or might fail at 40,001.

I think they're tested to 100k clicks anyway so 50k shouldn't be an issue. I presume they can also be serviced/repaired though I don't know of costs etc... Personally I wouldn't let 50k shots bother me.
 
I can't see it being a problem either, if you're that worried, why not just wait, and keep your eye in the classifieds here...somethings bound to pop up soon.....
 
I bought a refurb body with 12 mth warranty for not much more than that used one you're considering, have a scout on ebay.

Bearing in mind that they only hae a post count of 8 at the moment....
 
New to the forum... Cheers! Thanks for the comments, I'm swaying towards the new one to be honest as am not keen on getting one on eBay.

I wondered why I couldn't get onto the classifieds section. 100 posts... I'd better get snapping!
 
The one i bought on ebay came from a Brick-and-motar place in Cardiff. I'm as tight as asthma so the saving made sense to me.
 
Cheers for the links, I am checking camerapricebuster pretty much every day but ideally would like to buy it from a shop do that I have somewhere to go in case it goes wrong!

Hi Jamie,

I noticed this morning the MPB and Grays of Westminster have a number of second hand D90s in stock at the moment (all of which seem to have a much lower shutter count that the one at LCE that you mentioned in your original post). Both well respected companies by all accounts.

I have just bought a D90 as an upgrade to my wife's D5000. She is very pleased with it.

Thanks for the above, I have had a look on their website and I think that's the place. It's a bit more expensive that LCE but you get double the warranty and like you said,the cameras they have seem much less used.
