Hi,

Is there any method of tethering the 5D that doesn't involve upgrading to Windows 7 Ultimate (to get XP mode)?

Not a deal breaker of course but a bit annoying that I can't

I use Windows 7 Home prem to tether my 5D2 and 1d3 using the Canon software.

What problem are you having ?
 
I believe its the Mk1 part, in PC connect version theres no drivers I am aware of that will work, Mk II is supported though and just works as I understand it.
 
Just reread my comment, it should have read "with the camera set to PC connect - which is required for tethering".

Sorry if that wasn't very clear.

Have the same problem, after loads of internet research I reached the conclusion that by setting it to File transfer and print you can connect it to EOS utility to transfer files, though this takes a lot longer than just putting the CF card into a reader, but with the advantage of naming folders etc. The only way to do remote shooting with a 5D on Windows 7 AFAIK is to use Windows XP mode (which is rather complicated) or Dual boot to an older version of windows. Unless you can find someone clever to modify a driver!

Hope this helps, but please bear in mind this is not necessarily fact just how I remember it turning out for me.. Let me know if you find a way to do it! :thumbs:
 
Cheers Josh, yep that sounds like the results of my research too... Annoying but could be worse, at least we can get the folders sorted out right.

I do wonder if there is any software that works with the CF with the same functionality.
