Gradually working my way through the maze of switching from analogue to digital photography. I am now at a stage that I feel I need to incorporate tethering into my photo sessions for better analysis of pics while doing the shoot. I don't have a personal desktop or laptop but do have a gen 1 iPad which probably isn't worth the effort. I guess my choices are; tablet vs surface pro vs notebook. To complicate matters I will be looking to start to learn post processing with CS6 (initially lightroom) in a few months time which would tilt the scale towards a laptop but if surface pro can handle my 1st year of post processing on lightroom then I'd opt for the lighter SP as I will be investing in a desktop afterwards. Would really appreciate some feedback on pro's & cons, I am also clueless on what would be the best tethering kit.

For the record I do a mixture of studio & location shoots (both indoor and outdoor) and looking to upgrade to a D850 over the next year.

A lot of it you can make up from cheaper components yourself if you want - I did.

Lightroom is dead slow compared with Capture One, but I don't know if either will work with an iPad. I'd almost guarantee that neither will work with a gen 1 anyway.

I just use an old laptop, it doesn't need to be fast or powerul unless you're going to use it for all your editing needs. I paid fifty quid for it and it's plenty good enough for the job of capturing and viewing. I edit on my desktop PC at home.
