I thought NX Tether would but only DSLRS it would cover are D6 and D780, not even my D850!!

Not possible AFAIK* for the Nikons as they don’t do live view over USB, and in general DSLR aren’t made to meter like that as unlike a mirrorless you don’t normally run the sensor continuously.
*I wrote some software for them once to interface over USB for a robot integration.

I have found some software which appears to be showing the Live Histogram using the Nikon D810. Ive just hooked it up and it is showing the Histogram but I am baffled as to how they are doing it because I have also read that Nikon does not send Histogram Live data over USB

Ah, yes. Most of the manufacturers publish SDKs but behind license agreements that prevent resharing.

It’s a while since I’ve used it though. You can often access for freee non commercially but I’ve not checked Nikon recently.
