But! im stuck! im wanting to add a text layer accross my pictures, but almost seethrough (proper copyright?!)

for copyright at the moment i put my stamp ina corner, but need to put a few over pics in the near future...

can someone tell me how to do this (simple terms please)! on gimp photoeditor!!

thanks :D

Hiya.
I started using GIMP before buying cs4. How comfortable are you using it? Do you want to do something other than creating a text layer, reducing the opacity and merging the layers? that seems to be the simplest thing to do to me.
:-)

Open the picture:

Tools > Text

That opens the text dialogue where you can set font size, colour etc.

Click on the picture to open the text editor and type the text you want.

Click close in the text editor.

Select the text layer in the layers panel and reduce the opacity with the slider bar.

You can move the text around like you would any other layer or selection.

When you are happy with the opacity and position, from the picture window: Layer > Merge Down.

Hope that helps.

i am upto there but cant find the 'opacity slider bar...'

if i could find that i have nailed it :(

Have you got a layers window open?

If not, in the picture window go to the dialogues menu and select layers.

The slider bar is below the mode setting in the window that opens.

im obviously just really thick as i still cant work it out

any chance of a print screen
