I'm new to this forum so please go lightly on me! :) I've posted this on photography-forum.org too, so sorry if you have seen it twice

This summer I am going to Sangkhlaburi in Western Thailand on a project to build a school. The area is right on the border of burma, and a proportion of the population are burmese/mon who have fled across the border. These 'forgotten' people are not classed as citizens of Thailand and so do not have access to cheap medical help. For the five weeks I am there, I aim to document the lives of these people in a photobook, which I will eventually sell to raise money for the project I am going with.

Okay enough about the area. What I want to ask is can any body recommend any items of kit for me to take with me. I am only 17 and currently have a D40, kit lens, loads of NAI/AI and AIS lenses etc but I am trying to raise funds for a D7000 on top of the £1500 for the trip. I believe there is an electrical supply where I could charge my camera etc, so that shouldnt be an issue, but taking the laptop is a definate no no.

Is there a harddrive that can be purchased relatively cheap that has a built in SD card reader so I could back up my photos every night?

Also what lenses would you reccomend, I was thinking 50mm f1.8AFD, 35mm f1.8 AFS, and wide lens like the sigma 10-20 and some sort of longish lens.

Also can anybody give me any help with flying restriction etc on photography gear as I have never flown with any sort of kit.

Also if anybody knows of anywhere I can apply for sponsership/finacial aid for this trip, it would be great also

Regards Jake
