That old question... Best Lastolite Hilite alternative?

I could never find anything either, bought a Hilite. My advice....... buy a Hilite.
 
The main reason for getting a Hilite is:

Lack of space

If you have the space you DON'T need a hilite...

I thought its because its easy to light it evenly and looks more professional than shower curtains or some cheap stands and a bit of white paper. Other obvious positives would be collapsible and easy to take to different locations.

I think they are worth it, they are well made if you look after your things (like most things!)

They just wipe clean, but why would they get really dirty/damaged anyway, if anything only the train will get dirty if you let people on it with shoes etc.
 
Personally, I don't like them nor the light from them as most people stand too close and most buy them for a lack of space meaning people have to stand too close

Other than 'White background' what do you want it for? If its mainly portraits then why not be brave and NOT go down the white background route? I'm doing more & more on a black/grey Lastolite pop-up and even if I was doing a 'Photobooth' - whatever people are calling it these days - for shooting Wedding guests arsing about, I'd still prefer a simple pop-up and rim-lighting

Some of my mates have the Hilite - some love it, some loath it, but if you really want a white background and haven't much space - buy a Hilite :D
