I know their is a very long owners thread, but the detail of the settings & customisation has been buried in all the other stuff, so I thought we could run a thread where we could discuss our settings and ask "how to" on some ideas.

I was considering if the best way to incorporate the various options on the AI Servo focus into easily switchable modes. So I thought perhaps the way to do this was to use the custome modes, setting up in preferred exposure mode and AI Servo case. C1 - Birds in flight etc... Would this work ?

You can set different AF cases and AF points and areas and assign them to the AF-ON button and the AE-Lock button. Dont have to take the camera from your eye to make a change.
 
Ah, but I use the AF-ON button for BBF, which has now become second nature.

Me too but I use the AE-LOCK button to bring in a new set of parameters without even taking the camera down to fiddle with a dial. Can respond to changing circumstance by just moving my thumb. Way faster than turning a dial and it took me no time at all to get used to using the different buttons as required.
 
What you propose would work but setting C1 to BIF has risks as swans vs swallows benefit from different settings / cases.

The 7D2 can have multiple MyMenu screens and I have one set up with my AF options in one MyMenu screen. I don't think you can list cases there but I do have tracking sensitivity and accel/decel sensitivity as two of the line items.

To me that's the downside of having different button layouts between bodies that are so similar. The 1DX has the C1-2 &3 custom setting that you can assign to the m-fn button by the shutter. 7D2 and 5D3 would benefit from that set up
