The Amazing Sony A1/A7/A9/APS-C & Anything else welcome Mega Thread!

Anyway girls i have a dilemma, Dads 83 and struggles to walk far now so Wifes agreed to come with me, ive said i,ll buy her a camera but I'm unsure what. My initial idea was another FZ1000 but then i thought what about Canon, as i have canon glass for the A7Rii.. but I'm a bit in Limbo, don't get me wrong i think Canon are ok but nothing magical, 6D is old 5D is old 7dii is kinda nice but APS-C, and then we have Nikon id Like the D500.... but D7200 kinda ticks the box..

Anyone wanna throw in the mix others. Ive thought about Olympus EM1 again but there new un will be out soon, Fuji maybe but expensive ish, 7dII seems like best bet but help me..

Long time Canon user though I was I wouldn't recommend them to anyone just buying now as they seem to be behind the cutting edge these days and Nikon's are better... they're fab :D (I did use Nikon for longer than Canon but that was in the film days.)

I think Canon only makes sense now if you have existing lenses or want to use a specialist item not available in Nikon land. As you have the lenses why not just go either Sony or Canon for the Mrs?

What flashes people using? Is there any compact type.

I emailed him last night all seems ok, he has a good rating but yeah know what you mean...

How about just ask your wife which camera she likes? :0)

Just buy the camera you want then ask her to borrow it for a bit .... the wife has an a7sii lol ;-)

I see that having partners who like photography has its advantages. My gf only takes pictures with her smartphone so what can I do to persuade her she needs a set of three or four voigtlander lenses?

So.... the Nikon D750 eh?... only joking!
Anyone considering ordering the 24-70 f2.8?

Though you no longer a Sony owner? Or am I mistaken.

I love to order one but not for that price lol

I'm not currently, no but never say never, want mirrorless and have my eye on Fuji but the A7ii is a very compelling option too.

I've had Fuji xt1 only lasted 4 days it went back though it was poor well to me anyway. The Sony is much better. But people are getting great shots with the Fuji

As we're only also mentioning Sony's :D

To me the big draw with the Fuji's is the manual dials but for a mostly (almost exclusively) prime user like me the Fuji is the size of an A7 so why not have the A7? Ah... those manual dials... The lack of raw at high ISO's would bug me but I don't know if that's fixed with the new 2 thing.

Oh well, I keep looking at the Fuji's and the Sony A6000 series too but I can't see either displacing my A7 and despite my gripes with MFT I think that's relatively safe too. Fuji has those dials though :D

I get flamed for using the N word on here. Then everyone starts dropping the C bomb and f word. :tumbleweed:
Perhaps some Nikon talk should be allowed otherwise we wont know which model to use to prop the door open.

If I still had my Canon kit I'd possibly have bought a couple of Arts.

Funny how Sigma gone from worthy but dull through rather good and on to amongst the best you can get.

I was wondering how do you find the battery life on the A7, did it improve in the A7 II? Currently I have 4 batteries and I have to keep all charged so I can take like 600-800 shots a day

I love the Fuji's to use and found the files a struggle until I got better at processing them, great system but I was always a bit put off by the sensor, the X-Pro 2 looks like it sorts that!

I was never that keen on the purely manual dials probably because I'm not old enough to have used anything but digital.... that said when I last used an XT1 I thought the manual controls were great, must just have been used to them!
The lack of RAW on the expanded ISO options seems to have been sorted on the X-Pro 2 and truth be told I rarely use an ISO beyond 1600 on anything, not even the D750.

I didn't dislike the A7ii, in fact I enjoyed using it immensely, I liked the fact that it can be either a fairly small camera with a prime or can basically be a full frame DSLR with a grip added (Handy when landscaping).

I even thought the Canon glass on it worked really well and despite not owning any actually gave an option to pickup cheaper, good glass where the native stuff is quite pricey and in some cases questionable.... (16-35/24-70/70-200).
