As I mentioned above I have difficulty seeing what it would be like in a different format. Obviously I could just leave extra space at the top and bottom but I still won’t be able to visualise what it’ll look like until it’s done.

As mentioned, Sony crops the raw which I like, I don’t like Fuji for this as raw reverts back to the 3:2 and I have to try and match the crop back to what it was.

My understanding is that Sony crops the RAW by inserting metadata into the RAW file header, but all the sensor data is still there

In Lightroom can't you then just go

Open Crop → Aspect → Original,

I think you can ‘retrieve’ the full 3:2 frame with Sony but I’m not sure whether you can retrieve ‘as shot’ crop with Fuji.

Actually just thinking about it, I’ve not tried the different aspect ratios with Fuji, it’s the 50mm and 70mm crops I’m thinking of that reverts back to the full frame.

Yes you can get the full sensor RAW from the Fuji image having 'cropped' in camera, the crop only affects the JPG. Obviously if you shoot RAW+JPG you can then use the JPG image as a guid of where to crop on the RAW image

Yeah, I wish by default it would show the as shot frame but next time I shoot with it I’ll try the different ratios and digital crops and see if there’s a one click way of getting the as shot frame (y)

Just tried it, if using different aspect ratios LR does show the chosen ratio but you can retreive the full 3:2 frame like you can with Sony. If using the digital crop it shows you the uncropped version and there's no option to show you the cropped version meaning you have to do it manually.
