Mmmmm do tell.... FE 70-200mm f2.8 GM?
It takes a special kind of idiot to pay $2000 for a lens that produces images this;
What lens was used to take this photograph?
I just ordered that today! I might do a comparison between the f/4 & the 2.8 since we will have both lol
I also used to own both the FE 70-200 f4 G and 70-200 f2.8 GM but never got around to comparing them back to back previously, will be interesting to see your thoughts.
Going completely off memory the FE 70-200mm f2.8 GM didn't seem as sharp as the f4 version, but that was probably because I shot them wide open f2.8 vs f4.0, so you could argue that's an expected outcome.
I agree, my current one is tack sharp.... perhaps I was just overly critical of my previous copy as I was in the process of moving from Sony to FujiThe 2.8 should still be sharp wide open. The only difference would be shallower depth of field.
First image to get above 5,000 views on flickr so thought I'd share it on here! Taken once Southport Airshow had finished, they had a short firework display afterwards. Taken with A7 + 16-35mm.
Sure is and I believe its actually smaller/lighter than its competitors too?Sony 12-24mm v other stuff thread...

The Sony looks to be a very good lens
I'm wondering how quick the continuous eye auto-focus is on the a7rii. How quick does it pick out and eye and lock on? As quick as it acquires normal focus? Also does it hold on well?
An example of a situation where I think I could be 'handy' for me would be my kids running/playing around the garden/beach and me firing off a few shots with a lovely 85mm Sony lens, 46mp and all with perfect eye focus..... am I dreaming? Is it really just for more posed shots?
Thanks for your reply. Just dreaming at the mo but from reading reviews I think the 1.8 would be more than fine for me and is cheaper and smaller.I have owned the Sony A7RII in the past and the Eye-AF is pretty good, it will lose lock if the subject is moving too fast though. My best advice would be to test it out if possible.
Which Sony 85mm? 1.4 GM or 1.8 as the GM has to move a lot more glass which results in a slower AF lens.
The FE 85mm f1.8 is a cracking lens, I believe its comparable to the Zeiss Batis f1.8Thanks for your reply. Just dreaming at the mo but from reading reviews I think the 1.8 would be more than fine for me and is cheaper and smaller.
It's a bit soft lol deffo not a G Master lens eh."Viral" seahorse and "q-tip" picture, taken with a Sony A7rII and 16-35mm f4.

The zeiss is better xxThe FE 85mm f1.8 is a cracking lens, I believe its comparable to the Zeiss Batis f1.8
Why..............because it's twice the price? The zeiss is better xx
For me the AF Hold button is a great benefit of the Sony. I have it paired with Eye AF for people photos
All these photos with 50mm lenses aren't helping me one bit. I currently have a gap between 35mm and 85mm and I have been looking for something as a general walk about lens however I am torn between the 24-70 of the versatility, the 55mm f1.8 (generally well received) for a fast prime with AF (I do have to admit to be partial to a bit of bokeh, sorry) or going completely mental and getting an old MF lens. LCE have a 40mm f1.4 Nokton (Leica M) in at the moment which is tempting me
Simple.Why..............because it's twice the price?
It doesn't necessary follow, although the manufacturers love people like yourself (gullible) to think so!
PROOF, then again it's only their opinion!
Simple.
Because i have it and its zeiss

I hand held it at like 1/2 shutter lolTell you what @jonneymendoza, you've done well getting the wide angle shot from the 12-24 blurred at 12mm. That's hard to do ;0)
Nice lenses though.
