I really hope so. When on Sony's website, and choose the A7Riii every flashgun doesn't have a tick by "AF illuminator" apart from the F45RM

I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed that somebody confirms this, as it was the only thing I was hating about my new purchase!

I was thinking the same but I think they would have been better off not releasing these half-arsed attempts and worked on simply improving mc-11. Then they should have waited for the right moment to dazzle us with their brilliance. Now they just seem like a joke to me.

Just buy and return if it doesn't work.
 
Also, my two cents, Canon and Nikon probably won't have the lens issues Sony did initially because they're much more likely to get full immediate backing from 3rd parties like Sigma, the simple truth is theres still a huge, huge user base of Nikon and Canon DSLR users (something Sony didn't really have when FE mount launched).

There's a guarantee of customers there that never existed with the FE mount at launch, because we all know there's plenty Canon/Nikon users who will buy a mirrorless from them regardless if its better than Sony/Fuji or not.

Lol, but then you would've waited years for that line up, it would've cost them significantly and Sony would be using a new mount. :D

Would've been very annoyed if I bought the a9, was considering it based on early sigma rumours.

Dont think any of us where looking for all of that in one go but hopeful of a compact 35 art.

As EVEN YOU pointed out you cant beat physics.

The 35mm canon with MC11 is same damm size as the sony 35 1.4!!!

Anyways look and stop moaning you lot!

If and i mean IF thes enative lenses perform in terms of AF like native/GM lenses then this is f*****g amazing!!

BUT IF THEY ARE SIMPLY MC11 CANON LENSES THEN SIGMA CAN GO DO ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
Looks like the Sigma 24-70 wasn't worth waiting for if it's a canon version with mc11 permanently attached, the siggy lenses aren't cheap anyway and at least with the mc11 you could use the same adapter for other lenses.

Time for me to take the plunge, as there are some reasonably priced used G masters about, and I think my 16-35 f4 can go in part ex as a check on metadata shows I don't seem to have taken anything wider than 24mm :)

Shame Tamron have gone the longer, 28-75 route as I'm sure that could have been a good option!

Any users with opinions on the Sony?

But that extra flange can't be removed with current lens designs due to physics, not a design choice. Until new lens/sensor technology is in place (e..g curved sensors), every manufacturer will have the exact same challenge. The only difference is that CaNikon absorb that depth within the body but Sony chose a shorter flange depth between sensor/mount so, as a result, have to have that extra distance built into the lens itself.

Edit: A by-product of that shorter flange depth between sensor and mount means that mirrorless bodies are considerably more flexible when it comes to using legacy lenses or those made by other manufacturers (e..g CaNikon lenses) without correction lenses within the adaptors. That's a trick that Canon can only do with certain lenses and Nikon struggles to do with most lenses so it's swings and roundabouts I guess?

The Sony 24-70 f2.8 GM is very good, easily the equal of any Nikon mount 24-70 I've ever used!

Wow A7iii is a lot of camera for 2K. I may even consider trading in my A7RII. But I really like 42mp :( but I really want to use canon 85mm/1.2 with eye-AF :(
 
This could be a winner for Sony. BUT it's a big kick in the teeth for the A9. My biggest complaint of this camera was that it only has 5fps mechanical shutter yet was billed as a sports cam. Clearly not if you're using it under artificial lighting or as shown by Jarid Polin LED sponsor boards at footy games and the like. If it has the A9'\s AF system and has 10fps mechanical shutter this could be a great allrounder and sports cam. Time will tell (y)

I never said you were, but thats what was rumoured!

No s*** Jonney, of course you can't and thats what Ive always said which others have argued.

I can't imagine the 85 ART will be amazing hanging off a small camera tbh. These are very big lenses that are now bigger and heavier.... I wonder what will happen to the MC11 support now... no real reason for it to be around if this is Sigmas plan for Sony.

Jonney and Riz will be preordering :p

So the A9 is at 3k used thats 1.5k loss on new, imagine what its going to be when the A7iii is released at less than half the price.
 
Let's not forget A9 still probably has better high ISO performance and also 20fps option both of which are important for sports camera. The banding with silent shutter on A7iii may not be as will controlled either.
