Xt2 with kit lens and the 35 f2 for now. Anything up to 2 weeks
 
Yes sometime you do get a good deal with trade in as it save hassle and postage cost.

Just about anything is good enough these days.

I tend to concentrate more on what I want and specification with quality just being in the mix somewhere along the line.

I want a decent camera so I could buy just about anything from MFT and up.
I want it to be compact and unobtrusive so I should buy a mirroless camera as DSLR's are too big and fat and attention grabbing.
I also want to use old lenses so maybe I should maybe buy an A7 as it's just about the only FF camera I can easily use old lenses on.
Well, actually, thinking about it... I want really good quality so I should buy a camera with a larger sensor. Maybe I should buy an A7.
So I bought an A7.

I know a few mm sounds odd but my main reason if I did buy one is for panorama shots 35mm is a bit short 70mm a fraction long most of my Canon panoramas when I look back tended to be 40-45mm

I don't think you can go wrong with most 50mm's in all honesty especially shooting at smaller apertures. I've used Yashica ML 50's in all versions [1.9 > 1.7 > 1.4 > 2.0 IMO] & canon FD in 1.4 & 1.8 varieties.

What is it that the Sony doesn't do but the Fuji does? Switching kit backwards and forwards just wastes time between actually taking pictures. There's no golden bullet, just different cameras that can all deliver excellent results.

I've just picked up a 45mm 1.4 full frame system to go along with my Sony A6K kit and the other 2 full frame systems...

Are they your 3 cameras you use pal?

What the Sony doesnt do is update there firmware and software as much as Fuji do.. They seem to add things as things goes along well they did.. The AF is faster and the handling of the camera going to be easier. Also the colour production it does.

I am still in 2 minds at the moment and Ive got till the day the camera comes in stock to decide. I am bloody hopeless at making decision lol

And a few others I'm in the middle of building.

I get that Fuji offer more firmware updates but realistically, have you ever picked up the Sony and said, "I really wish Sony would increase saturation on their vivid colour setting..".

If it's down to handling or a specific lens that Sony don't offer then you're doing the right thing. If it's because you think the Fuji will give you 'better' results without knowing why the Sony doesn't, I wouldn't be so sure.

Maybe Fuji update firmware more often as it was not really okay just a thought

The Fuji battery life may mean a grip they look pricey

I have watched hours of xt2 YouTube videos and the handling for me would be not as easy plus it's larger your getting close for a Nikon d500 I think it is with touch screen

Anyway I hope you like the xt2 and the colours you refer too is not just processing no raw image comes out ready to go
 
I always find battery life concerns a bit of a non-issue too. Batteries are tiny and cheap so just carry a couple in your pocket/bag.

The last wedding I shot, I think I used 3 batteries all day in my A6000 and 1.5 in the D750. When the battery was low, it took 10 seconds to swap it out. Unless you really need a bigger camera, a grip on a smaller mirrorless body always seems like going against one of the benefits?

No I have no issue with batteries on my A7 they say if you video in 4K on the xt2 you only get 10 minutes no idea if true but that is really fast plus the file size for processing

Anyway I am sticking on Sony :)
 
Is that not a recording time limit rather than battery life? I'd be seriously surprised if a battery only lasted 10 minutes on any camera.

I honestly don't know as they claim 30 mins with a battery grip and the camera would then have 3 batteries it suggests that it's not a heat issue but a power issue. One other thing they say is 4K recording file size would be very big while my iMac deal with video better than Lightroom I would make me think would my hard drive soon get full and my 256 ssd may be inadequate

In truth as I am sticking I don't know and feel sure xt2 users find ways of getting over the issue my point really is more related that no camera is perfect for myself if I was jumping ship I would need to be sure that the new camera was going to fill the needs my present body failed on now. (+ the new Sony model might solve the problem and all my other kit is not sold a potential big saving)

Sport for a crop body using jpeg would usuay win me over wildlife might temp me but only because I would find glass for ff more than I could pay for on my budget .anyway whatever TP members decide if they are happy and can justify the change or perhaps run a couple of systems I am happy for them :)

The 30 minute (29) individual file limit is a tax requirement all manufacturers set on still cameras. If they go over that, they're taxed as a camcorder. Sony are the same.

Amazing strange regulations

So it's just coincidence the 1 battery = 10 mis and 3 batteries = 30 mins and perhaps a sales pitch that you buy a grip. May as well get Nikon or Canon as the size will be close :)
 
No, it's a software limitation imposed by the manufacturer, nothing to do with battery life. I don't know exact figures but you could potentially record 50 x 30 minute video files on 1 battery. then again, a 30 minute long single video clip would be pretty boring :0)

Bit of a exaggeration isn't it! its the same size as the A7 and smaller than the A7ii and way off the d500. However i agree the xt2 size direction has gone the wrong way as has the A7ii.

Not once you put a grip on it looks close for the Nikon d500 admittedly on screen as i have no local camera shops for seeing the cameras in real life

The battery in the grip is used when recording video to reduce heat inside the body, allowing you to record for longer. The grip just happens to have two batteries.

It's very subjective. There's more to mirrorless than just a size benefit. What's a waste of time to you is a must have for others. I think battery grips are great, and really good to be able to pop on or off so easily.

I agree and if I did not have the Sony and still wanted a camera other than my iPhone I would get a canon 5d4 however I like my Sony it offers features for me the Fuji does not

If a future A7 iii has a feature I think I need I might get one then doubt it would be the R simply for file size and the largest I print is 12.5'' by 36'' plenty of pixels for me

I agree it's subjective like all aspects of photography but that's my personal feeling towards grips. They used to be sold to users of smaller bodies to make their cameras look more "professional" (as well as adding a second shutter button). I get the size aspect but never really understand the requirement to have the extra batteries always connected just in case you miss the vital moment. Always seems a bit over-dramatic to me :0)

The only thing I like about the grip is the extra shutter button for doing portrait more easier part from that i wouldn't bother
 
I suppose the additional batteries help too especially with mirrorless.

Only ever had one grip myself, on a Canon SLR. That was good as it let my use rechargeable AA's.

Yes. I think there's only 2 or 3 of us using Sony A7's now :D However we're a tolerant bunch here and don't mind the odd noisy intrusion from Fuji owners. Talk about Sony's in the other threads or mention the shortcomings of other cameras in those threads and it quickly turns... less than friendly... We're so much more accommodating here :D

How far can I crop into an image with the a7 and the 50mm 1.8 and still have a useable image for print.

What effective focal length will it give you?

Does that make sense?

I've seen a number of used Xt2's for sale already so it will all settle down shortly.
