hi all..im a beginner in photography...im about to purchase my 1st dslr camera...but im confused to choose which is the best for me...im keen into landscape/animal photography....rite now im considering canon 500d,nikon 5000d and sony nex 5.....so im not sure which is the best for me ..pls help me to pick the rite one ..thanks guys...:)

Either one will work; in the end it comes down to budget and personal preference. Head to a store and try them out and pick the one which feels most comfortable to handle.

You should stick with Canon or Nikon as there is far more 3rd party stuff made for these makes than anything else.
Glass is cheaper, even OE lenses are not too expensive.
All modern cameras are wonderful pieces of gear but looking to the future for buying of new lenses and things, there will be a larger choice at reasonable cost. Untill you get to Pro lenses of course.

Hi and welcome to TP.

Keep in mind your DSLR will be as much about the lenses, if not more, than the body.

Landscape lenses tend to be around the 17-40mm, region, ultrawide around 10-20mm but keep in mind landscape you can use anything (I often prefer using a 70-200mm). these are just rough guides.

Animals varies but generally the longer focal length the better. For birds, especially small ones around 400mm is what is seen as a generally good length (but more if you can get it). Again this is a generalisation and I've seen some cracking shots on here with a 200mm, of of course you can get close to park geese \ ducks \ pigeons etc.

I'd check out the prices of lenses before you purchase so you can get an idea, also look on the buy\sell boards here.

Do you have a budget for camera and lenses combined? (don't forget to keep some back for cards, batteries etc). If you do people may make suggestions for what they would get with that budget, and second hand can often prove great value, though obviously you don't have the warranty unless buying from someone like ffordes.

Good luck!

Al

Although the caneras are so called budget models you will need good lenses to get the best from them. as mentioned above they cost as much and more than the body

Particularly so with the Canon 500D and its 15mp sensor, don't think mine produced its best until it was coupled with a Canon 17-55 and that was more than the camera price

Reckon my comment about lenses would be even more valid with the 550D and its 18mp sensor
The 7D is supposed to show up the quality or lack of in lenses and assuming the sensors are similar in design

If you are wanting to learn don't get the NEX5 - it can take very good images but most of the controls are buried in on screen menus so experimenting with aperture, ISO, shutter speed etc is a real pain.

As 'akr' mentioned, don't forget the cost of memory cards and lenses etc before buying.. and as also previously mentioned the nikon and canon have the most third party items.
