Any recommendations on free alternatives to Lightroom, Capture One etc? The editing in Apple Photos leaves much to be desired; but I'm not at a place where I want to start paying for software; and Capture One are discontinuing the free version that came with my camera.
Mainly I want to quickly flick through photos, fix a few imperfections (for instance, I've been out this morning and looking back at my photos have noticed a black smudge on the lens)
Appreciate that, but £10 a month is still £10 a month. On top of all the other £10 a months I already have going on I’d rather not add another one. I literally want one step up from Apple photos - I’m not interested in extensive editing, I spend enough time on computers as it isThe Lightroon/Photoshop photography plan is about 3 take away coffees a month - you get an incredible amount of software for effectively very little

I did the same.Bare minimum. No battery and just body cap.
Because when they put it back together…they can forget accessories. The body cap is easy and cheap to replace, the batter is not.
Gimp is apparently very good, although I’ve not used it myself. Affinity Photo isn’t free, but it’s a one-off cost rather than a subscription. I use it and I’m very happy with it.Appreciate that, but £10 a month is still £10 a month. On top of all the other £10 a months I already have going on I’d rather not add another one. I was under the impression they were shutting all down; I’ve been getting emails saying to export my work from Capture One Express. Is it possible I didn’t get the Fuji version…?There's still time to download Capture One Express for Fuji - but you'll have to do it & register before 30th Jan.

Not sure, I think it has already gone, I can't see Express on the Capture One website anywhere.

I also like this one quite a lot

You can probably see the lens smudges :/ Apple Photos does have a retouch tool but its not up to much. Everything else in it is pretty good though.
I've emailed this guy to see if they'll do a APC-S all-in-one kit for me. He's based in Cheshire aswell, it's Nigel Danson's son off of Youtube. Looks easy enough to do yourself.100% dirt on the sensor!!!
Since you are near Chester (I assume from the photos), Wilkinsons in Chester will clean your sensor ( as will Cambrian in Colwyn Bay) and the Real Camera Company (Liverpool/Manchester) if you don’t want to do it yourself

No IBIS on X-T20 - but duly noted if I ever get an IBIS camIf you're doing it yourself, don't forget to turn IBIS off![]()
They don't at the moment; he suggested buying the bits separately or using the full frame swabs swiping up and down rather than across during cleaning...If they do agree to produce a APC-S please let me know as I will be ordering one.
There are APS-C kits on Amazon, I don't know if they're any good? I have one on my watch list but I haven't bought it yet. Contents looks similar to the one linked above...They don't at the moment; he suggested buying the bits separately or using the full frame swabs swiping up and down rather than across during cleaning...
Yeah it does look like he's just reselling the same stuff Amazon sellsThere are APS-C kits on Amazon, I don't know if they're any good? I have one on my watch list but I haven't bought it yet. Contents looks similar to the one linked above...
I have this lens, loads of fun to shoot with. It's very small, very well built, all metal with a clicked aperture ring. Wide open there is loads of flare if a bright light source is anywhere near the frame but you can use this to get some nice artisitic images. Stop down to f2.8 and it's pretty sharp and punchy, certainly in the middle. The far corners are always mushy but in real world photography that doesn't matter. It has a lovely vintage style rendering, I really like some of the images I've taken with it. For the price you really can't go wrong. Obviously it's far from perfect, but it's also way better than I thought it would be for the price.Anyone ordered/own or looking at buying the TTArtisan 25mm f2 (manual focus) compact lens for Fuji….?
Seems awesome value at around £60 cost……or thereabouts.
Lightroom. Certainly the mobile & tablet apps can be used for free. You don't get access to Raw editing, or the masking tools, but for basic edits you can use LR for free. People always forget this. But, it is worth paying for. As has been said, it's a tenner a month, or if you wait for Amazon Prime Day or Black Friday you can usually get a year for £60-£75. I don't see the point in having a grands worth of camera equipment then baulking at a tiny cost to actually get the best from the images you've created. It would be like buying a nice car and then not wanting to put fuel in it because of the cost.Any recommendations on free alternatives to Lightroom, Capture One etc? I appreciate what you're saying; but I have to be honest that I see this argument all the time and it annoys me. Subscription-based services are a problem especially for hobbyists as the costs mount up. I would rather pay an upfront fee for a piece of gear or software any day rather than have to account for continued expense.Lightroom. Certainly the mobile & tablet apps can be used for free. It is - if you're the person receiving the fee !...paying a monthly fee ... for a piece of software I might use maybe once a week, just isn't a financially sensible option.
The X-T4, or have a look at the X-S10 or X-S20, both of those have IBIS as well. Finally updating my Nikon D90 which I have had for the last 15 years as a keen amateur,
I would love to purchase the Fuji XT 5 with the 18 55 mm lens but it maybe slightly out of my price bracket.
What is the closest compact, mirrorless, with image stabilisation fuji that I can get for photography, rarely use video and down a bit in price?
PS would I be able to use my existing Nikon lens with a fuji, eg, Sigma 17-701:2.8-4 Marco, Nikkor 35mm 1:1.8G and Nikkor 70-300331:4.5-5.6G with an adapter? If so what would be the disadvantages?
Any guidance much appreciated.
^ exactly what Richard said. I picked up a mint X-T4 from Park Cameras a couple of weeks ago for £799. Other than the box seals being broken you wouldn’t know it’s not brand new.The X-T4, or have a look at the X-S10 or X-S20, both of those have IBIS as well.
I think there are adapters to allow you to use your Nikon glass on a Fuji, but it would be manual focus only and not the best experience. I'm not sure how you would change the aperture either. The 18-55mm kit lens is a great little lens, far better than any other manufacturers kit lenses.

There is a Fringer AF Nikon Adapter https://www.fringeradapter.com/nikon-f-to-fujifilm-xThe X-T4, or have a look at the X-S10 or X-S20, both of those have IBIS as well.
