The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

Well my X-T1 and 23mm arrived, but I'm stuck in London for the next couple of days :(

Fuji refurbished store have the X-T1 in stock, the usual discount code (paypal12) is still working and brings this down to £854.99

It's very tempting.. but I'm holding on to see if a refurbed 56mm appears for my XP1.. a second x-series body has limited value to me at the moment. I'm sure it will tempt someone here though.

Also tempted with a refur 56mm F1.2. Have been checking their website on daily basis

It would be nice to see the 56mm in the refurb store but it's been a bit of a success story everybody loves them. I've only ever seen one second hand one come up and that was a reluctant sale due to financial difficulties, poor chap.

I too have been checking on a daily basis for a refurb 56mm, It's such a lovely bit of glass.

It's going to be a race to see who can hit the 'buy me' button first ! Acutely I'm very happy with my Zeiss Touit 50mm. I rely can't justify a 56mm even a refurb one.

If it doesn't appear as a refurb I'll probably give in and push the button on the OSD price.

I'm really tempted by a Fuji setup but fear the 2.8 zooms may be priced out of my range.

The one thing that concerns me is no RAW at 100ISO as I tend to shoot a lot of long exposures. Infact most of my shooting is ISO100.

Also lack of TTL remote flash.

Well I managed to get home from London a couple of days early and I've just unpacked the X-T1 and 23mm, although the battery was flat so that's now on charge then I can play :D

Initial first impressions are the build quality of both the lens and body are sublime, the camera with lens has a nice weight and feels good in the hand. My only grips so far is the lack of a threaded shutter release, other then that I love it so far.

How long does a battery take to charge, I'm itching to have a play :p

FWIW, the official Fuji release (cable) is an eye watering £90+ but a Canon one (with the little jack plug on the end) fits the microphone socket and works just fine. OR, if you're an Android or i user, your tablet or phone can be used as a wireless remote with camera control and TTL viewing of the image. Gives touch screen focus point selection too.

Battery should be fully charged by now - and I get 500+ shots out of a charge.

Enjoy!

I blame every one of you who've contributed to the 898 posts in this thread for my purchase.

I had to tell the wife that it was an old camera coming back from a clean just to get it through the door....

Regarding non-Fuji options for an electronic cable shutter release, I bought one with a 2.5mm jack off eBay for a fiver and it works fine.

After a bit of a wait, my 10-24 has arrived and I have introduced it to the XT. Hoping they breed! Just want the 18-135 WR now and that's a want rather than a need. Will probably trade the 18 against it otherwise I'll have 18mm covered 4 ways on the Fujis.

When If I get any worth posting, I shall share them.

I'm thinking that leaving the camera on a tripod near the bird feeder and using the tablet as a remote viewer/release, I could get some interesting (and maybe good!) shots.

That'd make a great picture in itself.

No porn allowed here - not even in N&G!!!

I think I may take the plunge on one of these. The kit lens alone should keep me busy for a while, but I do like a bit of landscape so something a bit wider may be in order also. The 10-24 looks great, but pricey.

Anyway, regarding buying has anyone got theirs from Panamoz (or similar overseas source)? I've not bought from there before and am a little nervous, although reports on here seem very good and an X-T1 + 18-55 for £1,040 with the 5% bank transfer discount may just be too good to ignore.

I've bought a lens and a camera+lens kit from DigitalRev in the past and encountered no problems and actually found their service to be excellent.

I brought my 23mm from Digital Rev last week, arrived when they said it would without issue, overall I'm impressed with their service :)

I've had quite a few things from Panamoz no problems at all very good service, I've also dealt with onestop digital and digital rev and there okay too.
I just look who offers the best price out of them and then order :)

Please tell me this is a fault or I've done something wrong

I've just got the XT1 and the MHG-XT grip (without the battery) to go with it. Was really enjoying using it until I tried to flip the screen out and it wouldn't work. It will flip from the top, but not from the bottom as the grip gets in the way. Please tell me this isn't how it works.....please.....(n)

EDIT - turns out i'd screwed it in too tight, but why this wasn't thought of I'll never know.... phew.

How does it feel with the grip, is it magnesium and how much extra weight would you say it adds?

As a general rule of thumb it's best not to over tighten any tripod bush socket in case it damages the thread or internal components. I'm glad you got it sorted.

Doesn't weigh much, just gives a much better feel to the camera. For what it is it's pricey but I honestly couldn't use it without.... it was the same with my X-Pro 1. The only difference with this one is the clever monkeys have chiseled out a battery slot so you don't have to remove the grip every time..... which is great!

That is clever, on the battery grip it will operate on one battery via the access port, or take two batteries for extended duration. They do think things through.

What a great after sales service I have received from Expert Shield. I emailed them on 21st May to give my feedback on their screen protector I have used on my XT-1 and mentioned that it is peeling off in one of the corners of the screen.

This is their reply to my email:

'Thanks for getting in touch regarding your Expert Shield, although I'm sorry to hear it has started to lift in the corners.

This really is very unusual. We usually say if it's not sticking in the corners it can be due to some dirt or grease under these areas of the Expert Shield, or more likely that the edges of your Expert Shield are ever-so-slightly overlapping onto the edges of your screen.

Not to worry though as we do guarantee against this, so I'll get a replacement sent out to you ASAP. Normally I'd have to ask you to return the original back to us first but in this case and because I don't want to inconvenience you I can send you another Expert Shield straight away.

The one we sent you the first time measured 77 * 50 mm. We do have some slightly smaller ones in stock which measure 77 * 49 mm. Would you like me to send you one of these to try instead?

When you receive your replacement Expert Shield, you may want to try applying it in a slightly steamy bathroom. The moisture in the air will help settle any dust, but more importantly it will buy you more time to re-align and ensure you can get all the edges adhered correctly.

In the meantime you could try washing and cleaning your Expert Shield, here's a handy blog post on our website:

http://www.expertshielduk.com/blog/washing_cleaning/

I hope that helps. I look forward to hearing from you.

All the best.'

On 22nd May, I had a new Expert Shield screen protector in my mail box :D. I am a very happy customer and more than happy to use them again and again.

As for the new screen protector, I went for the smaller one and will let you guys know how it goes

Hmmm - Fujifilm refurbished....

Received an XP60 refurb from them today as a pressie for my daughter before her adventure week away.
Looks great.
Won't work.
Giving me 'Zoom Error' message (not in manual and I can hear zoom clicking away trying to do something...)
Call up their returns line and it's closed for the bank holiday weekend.
Not impressed:(

Obligatory phone pics of the new toys: X-T1, 23mm and a little X10.

Going to do a similar shot of my black X family!
