The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

If you use the film simulations then you can input them as described but do not input/change clarity from zero. If you want to change clarity then doing so in post processing is very easy.

So are you saying that you don't use 70% of the recipes ? I'm just trying to understand the logic behind this approach because surely making the adjustments on the RAW in camera would give you more useable options ? I always found the process very quick and easy with the added bonus of not having to mess about in LR. Am I talking myself into another Fuji camera ? :ROFLMAO:

No, I'll still use the recipe, but if it says to set Clarity to 1 I just ignore that setting. So I'll still set the film simulation, white balance, red & blue adjustments, tone curve etc.

Actually, thinking about it - I don't often set grain, and I tend to use DR Auto no matter what the recipe says, and I always set noise reduction to -4... so I guess it would be more accurate to say that I use 50% of all the recipes :D

I can't help with the last question ;)

Historically only ever shot JPG, but since shooting RAW+JPG and exploring all the Lightroom Classic things I can adjust with the RAW - including matching all of the Fuji recipes, I’ve not bothered setting anything in body.

I’m assuming selecting Classic Chrome in LRC on the RAW gives the exact same look as selecting Classic Chrome in the body for the JPG?

In other news, Amazon got an offer on again for 12 months of LRC & PS or just LRC.

Ends 28/08.

I renewed my subscription a couple of months ago and opted for LRC only and actually haven’t missed not having Photoshop.

I need to do this instead of paying monthly. I've got a friend who has bulk bought and is set up for at least a decade :D

Hi, new here and I own an XT-3. After holding (and using of course ) a Sony A7V I realised how bad the autofocus is on the XT-3.. Considering to switch to either a XT-5 (or 6 if rumours are true) or XH-2 . I was so annoyed about the AF last weekend.. Have not have had the opportunity to use a newer body So Fuji wise.. what is the go to for excellent autofocus? I was very impressed by the Sony I must say..

Thanks for reading my first post ;)

oh no... hoped for different answer... I know the Sony is a FF so not really comparable.. but the speed... it was a bit of a shock to be honest.. I hoped that it was mainly the fact that the XT-3 is old.. so hoping for the XT-5 being better... I love my Fuji colours and the way you use the camera.. Love the old school feel and buttons.

Fujifilm is still way off :(

My A7III for examples has a much higher face detection hit rate than my X-E5.

Honestly, a lot of the Fuji photos I see are a bit more about emulating that 80s-90s film camera look. The “out of focusness” of them seems almost intentional at this point. They seem fine for the portraits I take, but landscapes seem a bit fuzzy if that makes sense. Never tried checking edge to edge sharpness and so on, but I love the images that come out of it.

I mainly shoot nature .. wildlife and such.. And with animals it is extremely annoying if the AF is rubbish .When I bought this camera (Long ago) I was a beginner and had no clue.. now I know more.. do workshops and next year even an special photo trip... I want to have a better system and was hoping that I just missed the better fuji (other then XT).. but it seems that I have to switch for my wildlife stuff... I will keep the XT for fun though..

Thanks for so far ;)

Worth to wait for X-T6 ? Switch to new system is expensive and getting used to new brand . Well I will take my time in deciding

Does anyone want a purple metal convex soft-touch shutter button? I had a clear-out at the weekend, so I've listed a few bits in the classified and freebies section. First come first served on the shutter button if anyone wants it...

Did anyone have confirmation on this please?

The only info I have (direct from the then Fuji UK Product Manager) was that with the release of the X-T2 Adobe worked with Fuji to get the closest possible match to the fim simulations for all the then film simulations except Acros - which Fuji kept the reipe for themselves.

Whether this relatioship continuesd or not I don't know, nor do I know if either Fuji or Adobe have tweaked their recipes since. But I would assume that its very very close, but probably not quite the same.

The XT5 or XH2 are considerably better AF than the XT3. The step change is huge. The XT4 is better than XT3 but when you move to XT5 it is noticeable. XT6 may be another step forward but my Nikons (Z8, Z9, Zf) are better yet than the XH2 or XH2S.

It is very close. But I don't think it transfers the WB tint tweaks or the grain etc

Thanks chaps - it actually says ‘camera matching’ when choosing a profile in LRC and selecting one of the Fuji ones so assumed it’d be the same

That’s why I will wait for the 6. Maybe a big big change (which I doubt) But if no significant change I will switch. Not sure canon or Sony yet. I like the menu on the canon but lens wise it’s better to have a Sony (but those menus ) I think that they are both good on auto focus. Color wise i will miss Fuji

Thoughts on the 70-300...
After moving on my 100-400 due to the weight. I'm kinda hankering for something longer, and the 70-300 seems to fit the bill being nice and light etc. I'm going to my local wex open day on Friday, so hopefully will be able to check one out.
I just wondered if any of you guys had any experience with one.

With custom buttons and the FN button there's no need to go into the Sony menus. I only go in (to "my menu") for the format card function.

Depends on when you need it.

I heard it’s been delayed. If you’re new to the system and don’t need the “slightly” smaller form factor then I’d not go with Fuji unless you’ve got a very good reason for it.

Loved mine while I had it. Stayed in my bag all the time. Solid build and optics, and the close focus is a nice party trick.

I have this lens. I like it a lot. Sharp

No hurry. My trip is June next year. I’m taking my time to decide

I liked it when I borrowed one from Fuji.

There should be a 10% road show discount of the lens price, don't know if there is a discount of pre-loved ones
If you've got a Very account they have it and they do good deals fairly regularly. I'm still a bit annoyed that I didn't pick one up last time they sent me a 15% off anything voucher.

I've tried it myself, they're not excact but close. Lightroom tends to struggle to match the effect of DR200 and DR400 with the raw files and requires tweaking of the tone curve. I don't think LR can quite emulate the film like grading of the highlights though. You can get close by using luminance range in conjunction with the tone curve. You split the handles at the highlight area of the luminance range so there's a more gradual cut off. Also, you can do the same with highlight colours gradually decreasing saturation and changing colour shift in the highlights. It's a faff, alhtough you can set it all up as a preset.

For all you in Southend on sea.

The BBMF are now stationed at the airport ready for mainly the Eastbourne air show, which is Thursday to Sunday by the look of it.

Once departure times are announced, I will pop them up herr

I wonder if that would be off the sale price too. Fingers crossed I might be able to barter a bit .

I sold my 100-400 (too big and heavy so not used a lot) and got a 70-300.
I have the 1.4tc.
It's become one of my favourite lenses as it's so portable and easy to use (I can just about fit it into my cargo shorts pocket when out in the heat when a backpack would make me very sweaty)
I'm not mega critical about sharpness (don't pixel peep or whatever the expression is) so have no idea how it compares to other lenses but A3 prints are good enough to get awards at camera club.
I really rate it.

Thanks for that info, Steve. Looks promising, so shall see what wex can offer up :)
