The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

I've never used one. It's just a bit of banter :)

A mate has the Z8 though and he thinks a lot of it. And, this with the retro dials and style do look pretty nice ;)

I agree that the ZF looks nice, its a bit slabby to hold (needs a grip), but everything going the 'wrong' way would need some brain recalibration!!

But on a positive note my Makina 670 has come back from being serviced today, so hoping to use that tomorrow along the Fuji at the USA Day at Oulton Park tomorrow.

I'm with you,

One thing I should have said is I used to write 500 page reports on things no one else even noticed and I had to stop myself at 500. Really I needed many more to be completely thorough and accurate but I had to tone things down for the normals as they stopped reading so quickly. So, a few pages of menu options don't really phase me.

There is no 'best', its just what suits you, both in terms of camera and handling (inc menus). Most people set the cameras up as they want, and then just use a handful of functions, it's the old 10% rule, your only use 10% of the features 90% of the time, in any given 'computer' product whether that be a mirrorless camera or Microsoft Word (or even Lightroom!)

Menu navigation can be a pain though, and this applies to all Camera Manufacturers, stuff gets hidden in unexpected menu's buried deep in the menu structure, but again thats no different from most computer software. I spend a lot of time writing software and I'm as good as anyone as burying stuff in user interfaces :)

I think being clear, using understandably terminology and putting things where people could reasonably expect to find them is more important than the number of menu entries. Putting something on menu page 3 and calling it something strange when most people would expect it to be on page 4 with other related settings and using a much clearer name is annoying.

I tried the ZF, built like a tank but it’s pretty hefty. Lovely camera, but imo kind of wasted on Nikon as Z mount lenses don’t have aperture rings which detracts from the user experience. It looks good with the retro looking 40mm though.

I like the idea of adapting Leica M glass to the ZF
I wouldn't do that, sensor thickness is different between the systems, Voigtlander Z mount are superb, no need for overpriced Leica glass plus they have electronic contacts so you get focus confirmation on the eye, perfect for you Sony boys that want to focus on individual eye lashes :ROFLMAO:

I sold all my film era primes but I still have my Sony mount Voigtlanders and one thing that did and still does appeal is if you have the time and nothing is moving nothing comes close to the accuracy of manual focus with a magnified view. AF just doesn't allow you to focus exactly where you want to along that chosen eyelash.

You get that with the techart adapter, and it also makes the M lenses autofocus lenses, a very clever bit of kit.

I think you need to try one of the newer Sonys, AF is pinpoint accurate from my experience, especially with the new extra small AF point option (y)

I was toying with getting the Voigtlander 35mm f1.4 but I’m not a fan of the bokeh with the exaggerated edges.

Doesn't overcome the sensor thickness issue and totally sucks the joy out of using a lens that was designed to MF.
I’m not sure what different sensor thickness makes(?), but you can still use it in MF I was just pointing out that you get the option.

A lot of my photography uses the hyperfocal distance and as such I’d love all lenses to have a proper mechanical focus and depth of field scales on them like they used to.

Edit: Just looked into the sensor thickness 'issue' (y)

I think I may have as many e mount lenses as I do z mount. The Sony lenses work flawlessly with the little megadap adapter
