The Fabulous Fuji X owners thread

There will always be exceptions, and maybe sensor size plays a part here, but I'd think that we would all agree that teh Mk1 16-55 wasn't exactly a small lightweight lens!!

But the 18-135mm and the 16-80 definitely have compromises
:agree:

Definitely agree with all those comments. The mki is a heavy lens but the mkii is so much more compact and lighter it almost seems a lightweight. I have the 16-55mm f2.8 mkii on my XT5 most of the time.

Hi Jonathan, do you think the Mkii is worth the cose as an upgrade on the Mki?

Whilst on the subject of bags, are there any slings that have secure/lockable fastenings to prevent ‘pick pockets’ when in big cities or on travels? I find slings more comfortable but as they tend to be on your back they’re a bit vulnerable to someone accessing them without you knowing. My current travel bag has very loud velcro which makes it obvious if someone’s trying to get in, but slings all seems to be zips

I use little latching carabiners through the zip tags. IMO, nothing will STOP a determined tea leaf but these will definitely slow them down! THESE are what I use - other sources are cheaper but this was the first result of a search!

For me, the compromises in the 18-135 are outweighed by the convenience for a walkabout option.

Thanks. These aren’t actually lockable against thieves but in looking at those it brought up these which look a good option (y)

No, not lockable but they do have a little piece that 1/2 locks the clip.
If I was going to get an actual lock, I'd be tempted to go for a combination type rather than a key - I've mislaid keys often enough but can remember a 3 digit number!
If a tea leaf's that intent on getting in to your bag, he/she may well use a sharp knife...

I know what you mean with keys but combination locks tend to be pretty bulky, in comparison to a camera bag anyway.

Hi Jonathan, do you think the Mkii is worth the cost as an upgrade on the Mki?
Optically it seems just as good. It is so much lighter much like my 18-80mm f4 (which is distinctly soft at the 80mm end). I dont know how good the weather sealing is on the new model. My view is always treat it as though it is not weather sealed and dry it off as soon as possible if necessary use your shirt if you dont have a microfibre! Skin is relative waterproof so I can shiver in a damp shirt!
The trip to Scotland to do the NC500 was more rain than sunshine but the images taken were worth putting up with the rain.
Regarding the bit about mk1 v mkii upgrade cost. I prefer to spend the money rather than have it in the bank as the tax paid is 40% on interest and anything left at the end is 40% again in inheritance tax. So if you have it then enjoy it as HMRC will just waste it anyway.

Might have to go into LCE and try one.

OMG

First lighter camera systems
Then bags
And now locks………

Is there any end…… :ROFLMAO:
Not weight this time but bulk ;) It would annoy me if it’s flapping about whilst I’m walking around

I swapped my Mk 1 for a Mk2, much lighter and more compact. Had an issue with the aperture ring (would only go to 3.2 not 2.8 and is a known issue)and replaced by LCE for a new one. Build quality isn’t quite as good and I’ve seen people with a broken “weather resistant door” replaced under warranty.

Thanks Craig, now you mention it I remember reading about that WR door. TBH I have no reason to change my Mk1 but this discussion started a little GAS. :$
