The most bored i have ever been with photography ! 580ex2 Bulb Replacement

I have done some inspirational and some mundane things with photography , but the latest project , Fixing a 580ex2 Flashgun with blown bulb ( due to HSS ) really takes the biscuit. Having to discharge 200 volts has taken over an hour so far and watching the voltmeter drop i have had three cups of coffee , boring though it is i dont want to leave it in case the resistor fries itself. Taking some photos of it with my new Fuji x100 though to maybe put a page together on the project.

So far its going well and its all cost less than 20 quid !

just hope it works.....

Judy stick it on your tongue. That'll liven things up and will probably discharge quicker.

Well after been at it all day one and off finally got it all refitted and resoldered only to find the wire that Maplins sold me is far to thick and hard and its playing havoc with the zoom transport system , oh well and at least i have the bulb working it will do as a manual flash for now till i get another bit of wire and day off !

Nope it does not look like that , much thicker copper wire and white sheath. They also sold me a 9v battery with the voltmeter , it takes AAAs and they forgot to give me the right receipt so i have the card receipt and not the product one

Interesting as a lot of people I know refer to it as that and not just locally to me either so I don't think it's a local thing

Should have bought a 1kohm resister and shorted out the cap, would have discharged safely in seconds

Glad it's not just me and my friends then, personally I actually am a massive fan on the shop, but you need to know what you want when you go in, as most don't know there arse from their elbow for advice, same as any chain store really

I quite like Maplins, they sell some very fast Samsung SD cards for quite reasonable prices! Also their flight cases are perfect for storing lenses and bodies

i use maplins a fair bit for the odd bits ( maplins store is only down the road )
they seem to cycle there sale items it's just a waiting game until what you want comes on sale but you do need to know what you are looking for
