Any idea on when this is released and the cost? I have seen some image examples and they look top draw!!

It's f2.5 and UK stock is apparently expected in the next week or two. Can be ordered now from Amazon UK, from a German supplier at an eye watering price here

Where've you seen the example images? I've seen some on DPReview and they've not been impressive enough to make me consider using the 14mm over my 14-45mm

I saw the image examples at DPReview and was impressed with the IQ although the barrel distortion was apparent.

I guess the IQ would have to be VERY impressive to spend over £300 instead of using the 14-45 @ 14mm. f2.5 vs f3.5 hmmmm and the 14-45 ain't half bad!

Not a lot but it is supposed to be better.

I did a test between the 20mm f1.7 and 14-45 at f5.6 and 20mm and I could hardly tell the difference in IQ! I think the 14-45 is under rated.
 
I saw some other samples that looked a lot better than the dpreview ones. Will try and find the link.

Mathers have got them in stock for £285.

desf - I think the quality on the 14-42 wide open is quite a bit worse from some examples I saw, stopped down there isn't much difference.

I thought the kit lens had IS as well? If so I'd see no reason to use the 14 over it

It does yeah, works pretty well too.

The main selling point of the 14mm is just that its REALLY tiny - which fits well with the M4/3 ethos.

edit: Andy - maybe change the thread title to avoid confusion?

That's exactly why I fancy it. Also zooms make me lazy.

If only it was a 24mm equivalent, I would definately be in the queue with my cash!
 
Personally I can't imagine it being better than the 20mm, and you're only paying extra for the silent focus. If your not into video there isn't a lot of point in it.
 
I received my 14mm from Mathers last week, I've been waiting for this lens for a while as it's perfectly suited to the GF1. I don't use the zoom lenses with the GF1 (I currently have the 14-140mm and 7-14mm) as the GF1 body's lack of grip makes them handle poorly so the GF1 has been left with the 20mm lens. While this is a great little lens it's obviously no good for any wide angle which puts me off using the GF1 on its own, instead it's usually paired with the GH1 as they can share batteries/SD cards and I can quickly switch to the 20mm.

However with the 14mm lens it means I can take the GF1 and one lens in a pocket with the other pancake lens slipped in another which keeps the setup compact and gives a lot more versatility. The 14-45mm is of no interest because the added size throws away the compact GF1 package at which point I may as well go up to the GH1.

Interesting John. That's how I feel about my GF1. It was great on holiday as a travel camera with the zoom but back home I might as well take out my DSLR or film kit. I love the idea of the small primes.

I'd love a slightly wider angle than the 14mm though.
 
Ideally so would I but with Olympus announcing two utterly pointless zooms recently rather than the expected 12mm prime (which I liked the sound of as it would have been a bit wider) it looks like it's the 14mm or nothing hence going straight for it.
