The old Camera Debate (Canon).... which full frame?

Hi All.

Heres the situation. Current set up 500D, 70-200mm f4 L, 17-40mm L, 10-22, and 50 f.18.

I want to go full frame and have a budget of approximately £1,800 for a camera body (more if I decide to lose the 500D and 10-22mm but id quite like having a second back up body).

I love taking lansdscape and cityscape shots so that my main focus. Weather sealing would be a bonus (as sometime when your on the hills, well, it gets wet).

What do you guys think about the choice of camera body? Should I go 5D MkII or 1D?

All thoughts welcomed. Its a massive decision for me (as ive been saving hard and want to pick the right camera). Ive had a feel of both and could quite happily walk away with either so really its views on what would be the best for the lenses I have/photographs i love taking.

What say you? What would you do in my position?

1D isn't full frame. 1Ds is full frame. If you're not worried about photoing moving objects or about having a similar AF system to your 500D, the 5D2 is perfectly fine.

If by full frame you mean 35mm equiv then I think that the 1D is off your list isn't it? 1DS is on though and is mucho money.

Personally I like smaller and lighter gear so I wouldn't go for a camera with a built in grip and therefore with Canon it's down to a choice of one if buying new or two if buying used however neither fit my bill so I'm stuck with APS-C.

You could always get a 1D, halfway between the full frame and 1.6 crop body.

as said the 1D isnt FF, so that leaves the 5Dmk2. just picked up a mint low use one on here for 1400 if that helps so well within budget

Thanks Guys, well 5D MkII here I come. Now just to find a good walk arund lens to fill the gap between 40mm and 70mm hmmmmmm

50mm works well as walk around lens on FF, and is what I use between the 17-40 and the 70-200.

Are you sure you need to fill the gap? I'd say that 17-40L and 70-200L is an ideal combo on the 5D2. For me it would be 35mmL + 135L but if I preferred zooms, yours would be fine.

I'd go for a 1Ds II, particularly if you need weather sealing.

5d2 is £1700 new

I've got 1Ds II (far cheaper than 5DII new) and have no major complaints, just need to clean the sensor every few weeks. 1D also works well, in a way that AF is brilliant, it cuts out just the crappy corners (if and when they are crappy - usually wide open), but the resoltion and colours of 1Ds win any day.
