Is there such a thing as the perfect photo? what may appear to some as a great or even perfect photo with perfect exposure, composition and subject it's guaranteed others will have some sort of critique to make.

I've seen some stunning photos on TP which rightly deserve praise but some of these stunning photos also attract criticism too.

What in your opinion makes the perfect photo that deserves nothing but praise that no one could criticise

I dont think it exists. There will always be someone who doesnt like it. Always.

Good question, maybe there are different sorts of perfect. An image that captured exactly what was in front of the lens would be perfect, but cameras can not do that, photography is always making do with a second rate copy of reality. For arguments sake lets say a camera could capture a scene exactly and the scene was, for example, some tarmac in close up, a lot of people could then alter that image to make it more appealing, but it would have lost it's perfection.

Then there is 'perfect' composition, the rule of thirds is popular but is it perfect? Nature uses fibonacci ratio's quite a bit and in some opinions that is more pleasing to the eye and maybe more perfect than the rule of thirds. Colours could be discussed in a similar way, balance and shape too, but is a square perfect? Mathematically speaking squares and circles can be perfect, but maybe a tad boring!

In theory i would say you could produce a near perfect image, but it would not necessaryily be the best, nicest or most popular.

I reckon this is pretty close to an achievable perfect photograph.

It doesnt require stereoscopic vision (although it would be pretty mind blowing if we could see it that way). Not sure how natural the colours are and maybe the field of view could be a bit wider ;) but it's pointing in the right direction. I don't think there is a perfect picture but my absolute favourite picture on here (that is now on all our families backdrops) is a picture by ..MD.. of 3 puppies with the two outer ones looking away from the one in the middle who seems to have farted! (its not even in his gallery any more!) Better than any picture I have ever taken !
