The unsettling art of death photography

A few youtube vids about it

I remember seeing this article when it came out, reminded me of the film The Others.

I believe it happens to this day. I'm certain I saw a documentary about newborn deaths and they found that having the couple cuddle the sadly departed and even having a couple of snaps taken helped the grieving process. I'm sure this was in the UK but it may have been a local practice rather than a national sanctioned one.

I did a funeral once, never again. it was someone who did in the uk with family in Barbados. it was the hardest one I ever did
I did a similar job in 1969 for a Hindu family in London. I thought it would be gruesome but in fact it was quite straightforward. They wanted colour and I had to ring a few labs to find one that would do the printing. I sort of expected hassles from the police or other authorities but I heard nothing after I delivered the prints.

Check out 'The Thanatos Archive' website. (Thanatos was the Greek god of nonviolent deaths )
