Hi all,
I am in the market now for a 70-200mm (Canon fit), I'm still saving, getting there slowly.
Now, I currently have enough for a Tamron 2.8 version, or possibly the Sigma 2.8. I might even be able to get the Canon f4 L version, what I really want is the Canon 2.8 L but that's quite a lot more money and therefore it's going to be a long time before I can afford it.
So, my question is (and yes I suspect there have been a lot of very similar questions in the past, sorry) am I best holding out longer for the one I really want, or shall I go for the cheaper option now? If I go for the cheaper option, which, in your opinion, is the better one - Canon f4, Sigma f2.8 or Tamron f2.8?
I want the lens mainly for portraiture, I do want the fastest glass I can afford - is the Canon f4 really so much better than the other two to justify the smaller aperture? If I get the Sigma or Tamron, am I shooting myself in the foot image quality wise? I know they aren't L quality but are they that far off? You see my problem - money is an issue right now, I want to (eventually) use this lens in a pro role so the "L" is really important, but at the same time right now I have an eight month old to feed...are the Tamron/Sigma lenses up to the job?
