Things to love or hate about cars...

There was an Internet video of a Smart car fitted with an engine from a Suzuki GSX-R1000.... Went silly fast...

A mate of mine has a Mk1 Fiesta that he fitted a bike engine into. I'm not sure what it is though but going by all his other cars it'll be fairly extreme......

The sort of theives that break into cars are just looking for loose change, sunglasses etc they can sell on easily in a pub, all to pay for their next fix. Break into half a dozen cars, a couple of quid in loose change, CDs and bits and pieces, even if they only get a couple of quid for a Sat Nav, it all adds up. Plus cameras are also usually stuck to the windscreen, something else they can sell on for a few quid.
Yes I guess you might be right if it’s a case of someone only needs to raise a few quid. Dash cams would sell ok, but I was thinking I rarely see anyone using a proper satnav these days so they’d be pretty difficult to sell to crack converters or similar.

Cd’s though? I thought they were dead technology nowadays. I used to volunteer in a charity shop and we could barely sell the things, even when we sold them at 10 for five quid.

I knew a chap who had an AC Invacar and a Kawasaki Z1300 engine. He never took the project to its illogical conclusion - he got married and had kids which changed his outlook on silliness!!!

I still see people using Sat Navs, and they always seem to have them stuck right in the middle of the drivers side wiper swept area which is illegal.
New CD's still sell so I see no reason why they shouldn't sell second hand. I guess it depends on the music on the CD's in the first place and whether it suits peoples tastes.

I can’t believe people still buy them either.

I buy them because I like to have a physical copy of things.

Missus got given an old CD the other day, it had family memories on it. Trouble is, we don't have any way to play the video on it. We don't own a CD player anymore, the last one broke, and it was never replaced as we never used CDs anymore. Even the laptops don't have Cd players on them. We were considering buying a Cd player, possibly even a second hand one.

I suppose even if we were given a VHS cassette with family memories on it, we would have to try and track down a VHS player.

You can get someone to transfer them to a memory stick.

I remember many years ago when things were very tight a mate of mine sold me a hillman minx that had a sunbeam alpine twin carb engine fitted , he had lost his job so I got for the grand sum of £25 ... it turned out that the wings were rotten so I spent a week or two fibreglassing them . Time it was roadworthy again it looked a mess so I bought (wonder how many will recall this ) a few tins of car re-paint the stuff you could brush on by hand ..
Thing is I chose fluorescent yellow for the body and painted the bumpers Matt black , fitted a couple of pairs of spot and fog lights and ready to go .. took it out on the new m4 and it really could shift . The good old days

Been trying to find out a little more about our new car, so I have been reading through the owners manual. Not very impressed with the manual, it is more of a pamphlet than a manual. My very old Canon ixus that is nearly twenty years old, has a thicker and more informative owners manual. Maybe the thinking is that new car owners now look on the net, for information on their car.

Is it the full manual or just a model specific supplement. It could be that the dealer failed to pass on the full manual. As your Tourneo is based on the Transit Courier, it could be that manual should have been supplied also.
Have a look here. https://www.ford.co.uk/owner/my-vehicle/download-your-manual

The manual for my Hyundai Ioniq is over 600 pages!

As he said, the dealer should be able to provide the full booklet. Don't let them fob you off with a link.

Unless it is hidden in the car and I have not yet found it, will have another look. Will also ask the dealer, maybe it only does come with the pamphlet type.

I thought they'd forgotten to put mine in the car but I eventually found it under the boot (with the spare wheel) along with a bunch of supplemental manuals.

Don't think mine comes with a spare wheel, I am sure I saw a puncture repair kit, but will have to check that out also. I did notice the wheel lock nut socket thing, that had been ripped open already when I got it. There was also some empty plastic bags in the glove compartment, looked like they held small items, possibly an owners manual, and maybe it was not put back up, or possibly whipped?

I knew the tailgate opens with the key but found out last week it closes with key as well. Had it five years last week so bit of an anniversaries find.

Not a proper manual, just a Supplemental it seems. That is the only booklet that came with the car.

Yes as I suspected that is just a supplement. The supplement is sealed in a plastic bag with the full owners manual, so I don't know how they managed to supply one without the other.
This is what I got with my car.

The full manual, about 350 pages, on the left, a quick reference guide in the middle and the model specific supplement that some cars will have. They should have also have given you a wallet to keep them all in as well as a blue cloth for cleaning your touch screen.
You will only have got a spare wheel, jack and brace if you had requested one. Maybe more now, but it was £100 extra in lieu of the puncture repair sealant and air pump you have in the boot.
What you should have in the boot however, is a towing eye and a thin white plastic funnel. Your need the funnel to open the metal flap at the top of the fuel filler if you need to put fuel in from a fuel can.

No idea if it was true or not, but I read quite a few years ago about a bloke who had a VW Golf for several years before he found out by mis-selecting when changing gear, that his car had a 5 speed gearbox and not 4 gears as he had thought.

The packaging was already open when we got the car new, so the full manual may have been misplaced. Will have another good look around the car, it may be under the seat or in another compartment.

If you get the packaging, the dealer has just been too lazy to throw it away. They normally open it and place everything in the wallet for you.
I forgot, there should be a service book as well, for dealer service and paint / rust warranty stamps.
Some dealers don't supply this automatically as service records are all recorded online. But they should supply it all if you ask them for it.

No, can't see the service record book either.

I don't really worry too much about our boring Ford Tourneo getting stolen, not as long as there is a lovely Mercedes and Sporty Vauxhalls and Fords parked in the opposite bays. :)
spate of these being stolen around Chelmsford in the the last week,

Something I might like about the car, or rather a function that could be handy. Locate Vehicle: By pressing the lock symbol twice, the horn sounds and the indicators flash. Very handy when parked in a busy supermarket car park, and nearly every other car is a silver ford. :)

I hadn't used the buttons on my fobs for just over 3yrs, then one day, the release button on the tailgate stopped working and I had to unlock the tailgate with the remote. Fortunately I had bought the extended warranty when I bought the car, so it got fixed on the warranty. My car is easy to find when parked in a car park, it'll be the one parked well away from all the others. :)

What I do like about the new car, is having a proper handbrake. The last car had the silly electronic switch thing, something I did not fancy should the footbrakes fail.

The last car had the silly electronic switch thing, something I did not fancy should the footbrakes fail.

The specialist who deals with my servicing told me a story about a customer who had a heart attack while driving on the motorway (in a RangeRover) and his wife managed to apply the electronic emergency/hand brake and steer the car to the hard shoulder. Probably better than trying similar with a conventional handbrake! IF the RangeRover brake works like the handbrake on mine (same parent company), it seems to work using the ABS system when used as an emergency brake.

The only thing I dislike about my car is the foot operated parking brake. A pain if your feet don't work!

I just leave it off though

I quite like the foot operated parking brake in the Leaf.

It can be a bit weird if I have to use all 3 cars in the same day - all quite different in terms of ergonomics! Only once used the clutch pedal in mine and the Leaf - at least mine lets go when you take your foot off the left pedal, the Leaf needs another press and release!!!

Something to love...

I think I can set the seat of mine to hot and the back to cold. Should confuse the MiL!!!
