Now I don't mean massive changes or obvious ones like more frames per second on the video etc but maybe little common sense ideas that would make it easier to use.

For me Canon should consider putting the dials they have on top of the G11 (http://tiny.cc/oc4y2) on their SLRs and maybe adding one for the WB. It would save so much time, especially the ISO dial, much easier to do when looking through the viewfinder too.

So... any obvious improvements that camera manufacturers have overlooked?
 
Progressive exposure on the screen - so you can see how the scene is actually exposing in time. Great for light painting or just for long exposures. No more guessing how the scene will look.

I'd go one better and like to see a whole new camera from canon.

Small compact rangefinder.
FF sensor
Multi angle rear screen
Optical viewfinder with information like a DSLR
Interchangeable lenses, MEF format (Micro EF) + EF convertor
IS ditched in favour of fast glass 50mm F1.4 etc
Full manual control via dials etc, not menu driven.
Flash sync at 1/250th, no onboard flash, hotshoe fitted.
No auto mode, just P, Av, Sv, M + 2 custom modes
Program shift on P mode
usable ISO range from 80-6400 with good noise performance
NO VIDEO - concentrate the money where its needed, on the photographic performance, there are other camera's for those that want video.
Weather seal the body and make it rugged.

price so it's around the £1000 mark when it hits the shops for the body, bundle with a 50mm F1.4 for around £1250

I could see a camera like that really taking off, I would crawl across hot coals for one under £2000

You can't deny it would be useful to have things like google maps when you are in a city you don't know well. Plus you could read Talk Photography on your camera! :D

Thats what phones are for lol.. still a shame no one has come up with one that can be hooked up to your camera to download the pics and send them on the fly.
 
I'd like the video capability off my camera and then refunded for whatever it's worth... It's a dslr I don't need video...

Geotagging devices take time to acquire satellites. Several seconds at best - minutes at worst. Do you want to wait that long to take your picture? To be of practical use it would have to be turned on all the time and have a half decent view of the sky.
 
The sensor and maybe even the mirror compartment totally sealed off from the outside world. No more sensor/mirror dust, and an easily wiped window.

Seem to kill batteries as well. A mate uses one of those little plug in ones on his D700 for when he's off in the rain forests and places, says it just eats through his batteries.

Phones are for making phone calls well thats what I thought.

The eyefi allows adhoc networking, I know it works with the myfi so can't see whay it wouldn't work with a phone. I may try it out later in the week.
 
A proper VF on crop cameras, similar to the ones we took for granted on entry level SLRs in the 70s, with interchangeable screens/focusing aids. There must be a way to do this.

auto pilot for when i am half asleep and screw up the shot! :p
 
the ability to choose a minimum shutter speed in Av mode at which point when it reaches it it begins to up the ISO instead - it's on nikons so why isn't it on canons?

also built in wireless transfer to a network within range so you don't have to pay 700 quid or whatever it is for a grip that does it.

oh and an airbag so when you drop it it doesn't get damaged :D

Yeah, it's much better to get a dedicated gps datalogger - I've one that does 18 hours on a single charge and is about the size of a box of matches. Download the tracks off it and use geotagger to put the gps coords onto the raw files before importing them to Lightroom. Takes about 2 mins in total no matter how many pics there are (longest time is getting the tracks off the device). Much better than killing the camera's battery.

well thats because canons are sh...aha just kidding :naughty: I guess its one of them 'nikon has this but canon has that' type thing - I bet there are some pretty damn useful features on Canons missing from Nikons.

Anyway - I would actually like to see the focal length displayed in the viewfinder, surely it's technically possible since this info is passed in the exif data. Would be handy since you could see what focal length you're at without taking your eye from the eye piece

and before you say its pointless..why put the focal lengths on the lens itself then? :shrug:
