Yes
So I’ve got a pc, but as I’ve realised, I’m going away for the week next week and all my photos are gunna be on my CF cards and I have nowhere to put them, a laptop would be ideal for taking away with me and editing on the go and what not..

Now, my budget ain’t great, it’s gunna be around £500-600 ish I’d say,

Really...All I’m going to be using it for is Lightroom, photoshop, Topaz denoise and uploading images to my sites, but I’d like it to be quick and a decent screen as my pc monitor is pretty good.

Any suggestions would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks
Nick

There have been some excellent deals on Lenovo in your price range. Have a look on HUKD.co.uk.

I absolutely hate saying this. But a secondhand Macbook is a very good option. My reasons being is that MAC os is a very very well optimized and not as resource heavy as windows is. You'll get good battery life and Macs just seem to work a little snappier than a windows counterpart. I use a PC at home like you but have a 2015 macbook pro for out and about and it still runs just as quick as it did when I got it.

Since you are going to run photoshop and lightroom the absolute minimum spec to look for is a i5 process with at least 8GB RAM & make sure it has a separate GPU to take the pressure of the CPU. . If you go for a lower spec it will bring nothing but frustration every time you launch Lightroom
I’m not great with computers haha, what’s a separate GPU mean?
Thanks

A GPU is a separate processor for graphics.

Have a look here: https://www.lenovo.com/gb/en/laptops/ideapad/s-series/Lenovo-IdeaPad-S540-13API/p/81XC001FUK

Decent processor, QHD IPS screen, a little light on RAM and hard drive space, but that's part of the trade off at this price point.

Also look at the Dell outlet as suggested by Chris/Troutfisher.

Choice of a couple from Dell:

13" https://outlet.euro.dell.com/Online/SecondaryInventorySearch.aspx?c=uk&cs=ukdfh1&l=en&s=dfh&sign=PXhcOSHtr1T4IOw/PR7UdbHz1Jcptw2WPo1syh/mwvylFeEttYaPbkdw5xuvj+UF5dx2NPID69eHg2gXCGrkl8OXvnuQaqCWt+HXqUlpgNVIrc0F7tJPMrFXkkRUEAIk4o4Yt4o7ULAK0KTfpAnShYXJMMkssGb0IAE429WzWo7HlRGhHdbaJYR8AXOFmnBkEc4/Kix7xZebaLdPf03JrAn8+fn3c+XIy3PDKm381/4a7nc3F5XTlmzZhMLra6Gw1MAJ4Xg66ZNPUKvzPIzO/Q==

15" https://outlet.euro.dell.com/Online/SecondaryInventorySearch.aspx?c=uk&cs=ukdfh1&l=en&s=dfh&sign=PXhcOSHtr1T4IOw/PR7UdbHz1Jcptw2WPo1syh/mwvzBMyjKynbJIXBZ8EIIVGj3qsdV4ghfbZ5BIU7zj/4LoPznIaIjWxL/LbOu0YKSIH1jsNkDZr2y46XKeiS31zJd8juP5N8YbmSJOZYfFXHY5nw2oQ+U8TE17M1al1OzEqKQa+2pALK1WJqDeWOtSx5sCxnlxParJyW1u13PLXQQ7Dkgv4gNauAO7wwu+hdHsnLHE0Y/lDDdB0pRe01BYaE1NRrua/XxareZZlEsPMFEkA==

Both have IPS screens to let you view a consistent image and quad core processor, 8GB Ram etc.

If you could afford another £100 then the XPS13 is as good as a Macbook (speaking as someone who owns both) : https://outlet.euro.dell.com/Online.../YGGtcnjaebN1CapgmeK6BEz7P5R0gAFvgU7tiX0suw==

thanks mate but the links haven’t worked for me, I’ve been suggested by a mate a Lenovo y50-70 second hand, it’s about £600 with a i7 and 16gb of ram? What you think?

Used MSI gaming 15" laptop.

Not the best screen like you wanted but they have the grunt to run photo editing really well.

The one I bought used for about 400 last year was a very fast machine with a really strong processor

^ This, I got an i5 but it only had 4GB of RAM and it was a nightmare in Lightroom. Upgraded to 16GB and sorted, but 8GB would probably be ok.

I’d say not to forget how important a laptop screen is for editing. I use Mac but I bought a cheap windows laptop a few years ago with really quite nice specs but the screen was useless and I sold it quickly and bought a used MBP. Obviously you don’t need a MBP but the screen is important I’m my experience

I'd also recommend an IPS screen based system from the Dell outlet - BUT - you probably aren't going to get it on time
My last order on August 26th was delivered on September 2nd which was quick for the outlet.
Inspiron 14 5000 (5485) - 512.00Gb HD - 8000.00Mb - £462 inc. VAT delivered
Nothing that good on there this morning.

This might well be too late now but as you titled the thread, "Think I want a laptop" perhaps you are not fully committed to getting one.

I can see you want to edit while you are away and indeed it might be essential, but if not could you manage without one and edit when you come home where you already have a set up?

£500ish could be spent on something else photographic.

Dave

So I’ve been looking and thinking, maybe the MacBook Pro 2015? Seems to be one of the best screens and it can be upgraded in ram if I only get the 8gb one?
