Think my lens has broken!

After 10 years of faultless performance my old siggy 28-300 has thrown a wobbler. It keeps getting stuck at either 70 or 200mm and you have to either force it past or leave it for a bit then it randomly behaves itself. It started doing this at the weekend and it is getting worse. Took it out today and had to come home early as it would have have been a waste of time trying to photograph a bird flying display at 70mm. Arguably it was probably fairly wasted at 300mm but there was more of a chance!

Any idea what can cause this and whether it is a cheap fix or likely to be something that makes it uneconomic to repair?

Funny enough you mentioned 70 200mm. I think you should go for one.

Sounds like mechanical wear on the zoom ring, maybe a drop of light machine oil might fix it, but TBH it may be more cost effective to just replace it.

Hope not. Cheapest one similar I have seen was over £100 :-/

Thanks for that. Lehman's don't do sigma so it will have to go back to sigma themselves. Not as expensive as I feared

There is a chance it could be more than the quoted tariff and of course will be subject to parts availability. I had my 18-125mm repaired by them and the turn around was reasonably quick and the process fuss free.
