Hi All

Do any of you lovely folks use the Think Tank belt kit?

I'm especially keen to hear your experiences with the belt in terms of comfort during use and it's stability while moving and shooting. Pouch wise, something big enough to fit a 70-200 f2.8 with a hood reversed. That way I could drop a 24-70 in there if I fitted the 70-200.

So...... Anyone :D

I worked with a guy last year who used one on a long hike around an island, he seemed happy enough with it, didn't see any obvious issues but it did look bulky (a lot of pouches) could be akward in more confined areas, not sure how safe it would be in a crowd though with pouches around the back.

I'd only be looking to use a single pouch really, so bulk isn't really an issue. :)

I use it when I am shooting motorsport, ideal for rallying where you need your hands free for scrambling around woodland.

For a lens and some bits it is great.

When I had two 1 series with lenses and other kit hanging off it I found it slipped down a lot, so bought the chest harness, the only thing there is that the harness prevents the pouches from being swivelled around, one of the benefits of the system.

It is very well made gear and works well.

Thanks Mark

It's the belt slipping round that worries me as I don't want to be missing shots through having to mess with belt kit. I'd mainly use it when shooting Cabaret so no real need to carry massive amounts of kit as my main bag is usually stashed away safely back stage. It really would be a single lens pouch and possibly a small pouch I can dump a flash and a set of batteries into.

I'll have a good look at them at focus, :)

If you want a more barebones kit, check out the newswear pouches - absolutely bombproof kit used by photojournalists around the world.

cheapest place to buy is a canadian ebay seller iirc :)

Love my thinktank skins setup... So easy to access kit, hardly notice I'm wearing it...

The idea of the pouches being able to swing is good for me, as i'm often crunched up or on the floor getting the angles I want. So not having a pouched lens digging in me would be a bonus.

I've not heard of the newswear system, I'll go google now........ this could be a good time to give in and set up an ebay account :gag:

Tom....skins set up?

They have the lens pouches, and the skins pouches. The skins pouches have flaps over the top :)

on another note Clifton cameras is usually where i buy all my thinktank stuff, cheapest i can find normally and the service is excellent.

Are you going to focus? if so there will be loads of thinktank stuff on the "snapper stuff" (UK Importers) stand... and they always have a good deal on :)

they're quite niche... check out the thinktank system at focus :)

Up to now, I'm scheduled to be at focus on the Sunday, so look out for the old bloke running round the hall with the bat belt on :D

Then definitely check out snapper stuff... The last few events I've been too they were doing 20% off :)

I use the skins one as it doesn't have any padding and makes it less bulky, but that is using outdoors with plenty of room, and less likely to bash into anything. The other one does have padding, can't remember the name. Highly recommended though, much more convient if you need to move about quickly, and you don't seems to get so hot like when wearing a rucksack. I use it mainly when I'm at the polo and need to quickly go from long lens sports mode, to pap snapper on the sidelines.
