Thinking of a change...

I'm thinking of a change, based on the fact that the D300s and SB900 I have is rarely taken out of the bag, and quite often humped about and never taken out of it's bag, quite sadly.

The change I'm thinking of is something like a Panasonic GF1 or Olympus PEN subject to selling the D300s and SB900 for a reasonable price. I'm thinking the Panny or Olympus is pocketable and more simple to use (in terms of having around me and the Billy Bonus is the wife can use as she won't use the Nikon at present).

Anyone any experience of either swapping from full DSLR to 4/3's or using side by side. I have a 50 mm prime and an 18-105mm lens with the Nikon so the 14-45 would kind of suffice to start with if I chose that route.

No, but I went the other way (from Olympus), and miss the pocketable smaller format. There's the old adage - the best camera is the one you will use...

I've had a GF1 alongside my 5D since March. It goes everywhere with me and I love using it. I've stuck to the one 20mm lens to keep it small and pocketable, and I've taken hundreds of photos in the three months I've had it. Whilst picture quality is excellent, I would never give up my 5D, which is still way ahead. I can't speak for the D300, but I'd guess it's still well ahead too.

They are two different styles of camera for my purposes. I get a lot more photos taken in day to day situations where an SLR is out of the question. But even when I've had my 5D I have still found myself getting the GF1 out and taking the same shot. All I can suggest is that you get one and hang on to your D300 for a while and see if you can live without it.

Thank you both for your comments. I find even if I have the Nikon with me I'm not taking it out of the bag and using it at present. It's a lovely camera, works beautifully but for some reason don't know if I've really gell'd with it ( not that I'd own upto that with the Wife )

a smaller pocketable camera would certainaly offer a different alternative for almost everyday use.
