Thinking of buying a Pentacon 135mm 2.8 (Canon 5D Classic)

I have read that some m43 lenses dont clear the mirror on the 5D. Does anyone have knowledge of using these manual 135mm lenses on a 5D?

I think you mean m42 lenses..

There are a number of compatibility charts that have been compiled and shared online, there's a good one here - although that one doesn't specifically list the Meyer/Pentacon 135mm. I assume you've hit Google - from what I can see there are several reports of people using it with the 5D/5D2 without problem, and one or two that suggest part of the plastic dust shroud on the back of the mount had to be trimmed. But there are several versions of this lens and that may account for some of the differences.
 
Thanks for the reply! Haha, yes I did mean M42..

I have read that anything over 100mm would'nt cause any mirror problems, but I just wanted to be sure..
 
Some very positive reports here.
 
The Pentacon 135/2.8 is fine on full frame. Typically the lenses that have issues have protruding glass elements which hit the mirror. The Pentacon has a long cone like mount which makes it perfectly safe.

I'd strongly recommend the preset version of this lens as it has wonderful creamy bokeh and good pop at larger apertures.

Thanks for the info, the one I'm think of is the Pentacon with the 15 blade aperture. Is it the same as the preset?
 
If you haven't yet ordered the adapter, PM me your address and you can have one in return for a donation to the RNLI. Since switching to Fuji I no longer need my m42-EOS adapters.
 
Chipped or plain, there should be some of each knocking about - I think most were chipped. I'll just need to have a rummage to find them and pick one out. I saw a couple the other day, just need to remember which drawer they were in. If I send you a chipped AF confirm one it should be a programmable one (you can set the focal length and minimum aperture for EXIF) or it might be a standard AF confirm only - I won't be able to tell because I don't have a Canon body to test them with now.
 
As long as they have the AF confirmation I'd be happy to do it this way and donate £5 to RNLI.

Just out of curiousity, how do you program them?

Thanks Alastair, the adapter arrived today and it's just a tad heavier than my 50mm f1.8 :)

The 135mm should be here tomorrow to keep it company!
