Thinking of upgrading from Canon 1D IV to 1DX

Ok...apologies if this has been done before, but I couldnt find it on here.
I have a Canon 1D IV that I love & has been great for several years now, I borrowed a 1DX the other week & was impressed. I just like to hear from anyone that upgraded from the IV to the X and what their experiences were.

I largely do nature (bird) photography, but some also lots of other varied photography including portraiture & street.

I've just done it & I'm staggered by how much better it is. I've still got the 1d mkiv but doubt I'll use it again.
Also I'm not missing the crop factor.

I went from a two 1D4 setup to a two 1Dx setup but kept a 1D4 fearing the loss of effective reach for birds. 12 months later the 1D4 shutter count had only risen by about 100 (I was probably trying to justify keeping it). The 1Dx crops very well when required but neither option is a substitute for as much FL as you can muster.

Do it. Just done it and the only advantage the MKIV had was the crop. That's not to say that the MkIV isn't a fine camera because it is. The 1DX is like a MkIV on steroids. Canon have a trade in offer at the moment where you will get an extra £400 for your MkIV
 
I saw the £400 trade in a while back, that's another if the things that makes me want to make the jump. It might be hand in pocket time....

I did it, was never really happy with my mkiv, (couple of issues) happy I sold it, now I want another X. It you can afford it, do it, you want he sorry...!! :thumbs:
 
I moved from a 1D IV to a 1DX last year. Main advantages for me (that I've noticed) were less noise at higher ISO (can make do without flash in some situations), wide angle lenses being noticably wider and a better screen. AF performance seems slightly better.

I do miss the reach of the IV though under some circumstances (the files from the 1DX do crop very nicely though), and would definitely consider buying one as a second body (to cut down on lens swaps) if I had enough funds.
 
Not birds...I ahd both at same time... but in decent light i would be happy to go out wiht the mkIV ... the upgrade for me was low light... i now have 2 1dx and on a nice day shooting cricket i miss the mkIV :)
