Hello people!

Im thinking of upgrading my Canon 550d, but im not 100% on what to upgrade too- I have seen the canon 5dmkII and the canon 40d but I was hoping on your opinions out of the two!

Used prices, one sells for £1000 and the other £250, are you sure you're comparing the right two? :shrug:

Two completely disparate models, so very difficult to comment on.

What doesn't your 550D do that you want from the new model? And why the discontinued 40D as opposed to a 50D or 60D? IQ wise, a 40D will probably be a step down from your 550D.

I meant the 50d :)
 
It will also depend what lenses you already have. Your EF-s lenses wont work with a full frame body like the 5D2 so if you've only got EF-s lenses you'll have to factor that cost in as well. The other thing to consider is what you're going to be shooting. If you want sports and wildlife you would be better off with the 7D but if it's more generalised then the 60D would be a decent upgrade (or a 50D maybe, but I've never had one to try).

If you want to shoot low light stuff, portraits and landscapes then the 5D2 may be the best bet as it's still a fantastic camera, but it will cost you a lot more going that way.
