Hi long prime TPers (in particular),

Does anyone on here have experience of this rain cover?

Does it represent good value, is the design good and most importantly, does it do what it says on the tin?

Thanks muchly :)

PS. If I get good feedback, I will be ordering this tomorrow with the Canon fit eyepiece!

Make your own Mark, that is one damned expensive raincover there.......

Pair of waterproof leggings, scissors, some elastic and needle and thread, bobs your uncle.

Or buy one off us.....Clickety Click.......I got the wife to make me one up for my Sigma 300-800 when I bought it,made from army surplus Gortex leggings and designed specifically for that lens.It is easy enough to do......

Cheers Ade :)

The Stealth version...is it open ended with a drawstring at the camera end? Can't really see it on the piccys..

Cheers

I have one
it beats the aquatec one hands down by a long way, which is pretty good to start with.

if you wanna protect your kit and work in the rain there honestly isn't another choice

just my 2 cents any questions ask away

Cheers Ade :)

There is no drawstring on it Mark. The seam is stitched to take one should you feel the need.It has been made like that so people can put bonsai tree wire through to keep it open at whichever shape required. You can always return it if it is not what you want......

The one the Mrs made for me is elasticated at the end that goes over the lens hood and has an elasticated drawstring and clasp at the other end.I made it ,well Mrs Frac made it, about 8 inches too long so that there is plenty of room at either end, should it be needed. It really is an easy thing to make and you can make it exactly to your design.

The hydrophobia one looks very good, very good indeed, but what a price.........

I know, the price is :cuckoo: but it is probably the best you can get for keeping everything dry.

After much , I'm gonna plump for the ThinkTank as an investment, particularly as it has an extension if I were to be lucky enough to own a 600mm  and carries a lifetime warranty..

IMO, it seems to be very well designed with pretty much everything thought out and all bases covered..

I do feel for the price though, that the eye piece (£26) should have been included...:bang:

Thanks Ade and zilly for your thoughts :)

It is your money mate, spend it where you want to................

It does look very good, let me know how you get on with it please?

Hopefully I'll get it in time for the weekend, where it'll get some use at a local nature reserve in the dire weather forecasted for Saturday and Sunday.

If I get time, I'll write a review for here  and give you a heads up by PM...

Thanks Mark.............:)

Do any of these covers let you easily operate the switches and focus ring easily?

Looking at the product, looks like you can, but not that easily. Having said that, it won't be delivered till tomorrow (fingers and everything else crossed!!!)

Ok, 'tis now ordered and paid for, with the eyepiece adaptor and is being sent by Royal Mail and I have a tracking number.

Got an email at about 4.20 stating it has been dispatched, so (those people who've bought from Jacobs with free standard delivery by Royal Mail), do the goodies generally arrive the next day?

Cheers :)

Do I detect some excitement and impatience about your new purchase here Mark?...............:D

:D

Well nothing beats the sight of a new lens box and/or Canon 1D Mark IV lol, but in a way yes, I'm looking forward to giving a good old English "up yours" to the weather we've been having and will still get over the weekend :bang:

I've worked my nuts off paying for the awesome Paramo Aspira Smock (£295), Cascade trousers (£110) and Mountain vent pull-on (£75) and the Hydrophobia (£135 incl eyepiece) is the final piece in the weather jigsaw :woot:

I guess like many on here, I've been severely hindered by the rain, so £615 later I should be able to go out and not worry about getting wet/gear damaged..

Hi Mark,

Yep, it is for the moment but am saving up for the 600 f4, so wanted to get this for its versatility. Apparently it comes with an extension piece for the 600...

Im tempted by one of these too and will hopefully buy at Focus. Thing is I have the Sigma 120-300 2.8 so is the 300-600 too big and the 70-200 too small ? Anyone?

Your 300 2.8 will get lost inside it, it can fit a 600 f4 and converter no problem, thats what i got mine for, but now it will be used with just the 400 2.8 IS.

They are a great design and easy to deploy when needed.

Here you are, a size comparison between the Canon 300 2.8 and your Sigma 120-300mm...

Mark, I guess I just don't need to roll the cover back as far with the shorter lens and keep some of the cover wrapped under the hood material? I'll be using the 1.4 x with it more often than not...

That lens, I have one too, will be totally lost in that shroud........Ott, IMO.

Well it arrived today and it seems to be very well made and designed.

Really looking forward to getting out at the weekend with it (obviously if the weather is ******ty).

First impressions are that it is a quality piece of protection  and it looks like I can tuck some of the excess length into and underneath the lens hood part...

Will definately write a review once I've used it a bit...
