Yes - it would have been nice with some light on the head and neck.

A whole bunch of swans came down and wheeled round the pool a couple of times (Upton Warren) looking for somewhere to land as most of the pool was frozen solid, then they just headed off which is when I caught this shot.

Nice one I guess you were combating a bit of haze as it looks like it killed the contrast a bit.
