Does anyone know what they are called?

They look like really thick flourescent tubes but I've seen models holding and posing with them on set so are quite tough.

I'm after a couple.

work lights, task lights, mechanic's lights. Screwfix probably has them.

There was a shot on Uk's next top model, the guy had a 5D2 and a 50mm and 4 of them.

I'm considering getting some under car neons and using those instead.

They're just ordinary flourescent tubes, push on end caps at either end, with the one they're holding arranged so that the return cable runs along the back of the tube.

The other's are daisy chained.

They may even be low voltage lights too, so the wiring required would be low gauge.

I thought they would be encapsualted in pvc though because they're quite fragile?

Maybe, but they don't look as if they are.

Fluoro tubes can be pretty tough, unless you're using them for sword fights...
