Thoughts on changing system

I've been using Nikon gear since the mid 90s. I've accumulated quite a sizeable collection of lenses and strobes.

I now have a f100, d700, 35mm 2.0, 50mm 1.4, 20mm 2,8, 85mm 1.8, 24-80 3.5 vr2, 70-200 2.8 vr1 and a couple of Nikon strobes. I tend to use the 70-200mm and 85mm 1.8 most in recent years. The f100 is for when i get the urge to develop my own film, which i haven't done for years.

I'm considering changing to a smaller format. It needs to have very good AF, responsive, good range of lenses, be a significant improvement in weight compared to the Nikon kit I have already.

In the short list are the following:
Fujifilm XT1
Olympus EM1/EM5m2/EM10m2

The alternative is to stick with Nikon and get myself a D750 or perhaps a D7200 as they are lighter and benefit from better high ISO.

I already have an XE1 with kit lens, which I procured here. Great results, but feels a little awkward to hold. I also have a brace of other cameras too, RX100, LX7, DP2M, X100.

What do you think?
 
I have just recently swapped out from canon FF to Fuji XT1. Its early days yet as only got one lens at this point but once I've put the buttons to muscle memory I cant see myself regretting the move.

my main reason for move was form factor and that the lenses I wanted were out of my reach cost wise and with canon going through a refresh of its lenses the price seems to rise more.

I've only been out once with the new camera and I'm impressed so far. Still have to go through the manual every now and then. You can get the large grip rather than the battery grip. It helps with the handling and I'm not reaching for a battery grip anytime soon.
 
I think you need to do a bit more thinking on the reasons for switching before going further!

Is the size or weight preventing you from taking your kit out? Then a new D750 or D7200 is going to do nothing for you.

Just fancy a change? Then get a new Nikon body to go with all your glass.

X-T1 is very ergonomic compared to the X-E1 (have had both) but the image quality is on par, so have a good think about whether you are happy with the images from the X-E1 :)
 
Must admit that I do keep looking at the Fuji's but on balance I always keep saying "no" to myself and I always stick to what I have, A7 and Panasonic G1 and GX7.

Fuji plus points for me...
-Nice retro design with aperture, shutter and ISO dial. It would be lovely to see how the camera is set up by just looking at the top plate.
-NIce lenses, even if some are verging on being a little large for a CSC.
-APS-C is maybe the Goldilocks sensor size for hand held shooting.

The things which put me off...
-The mushy file / be careful what processing package you use issue... this may or may not be a real world issue but just as some are put off by Sony lossy raws I'm put off by the possible issue of processing Fuji raws. I have CS5 and I hate the thought of learning something new to get the best out of my pictures.
-Relatively low maximum ISO. Yes, higher settings are available if you're happy to shoot JPEG but I've got used to being able to shoot at ISO 25,600 with my A7 and GX7 and even though it's not something that I do all that often I don't want to lose the ability.
-Slight concerns over quality. Again this may not be a real world issue but even on this forum there have been reports of quality issues and there seem to be more than with any gear I've had before other than Sigma lenses and I was always lucky with them :D Still, quality is a nagging little question at the back of my mind.

Have you thought of adding Sony and Samsung APS-C to the list of possibilities?
 
TBH m43 shows noise at base ISO, Fuji APS-C does not.

Need to be realistic how often you shoot at ISO 25600 vs every other shot you ever take.

I like the ability to shoot higher than 6,400 which I think is the Fuji max for raw so the issue really is being able to shoot between 6,400 and 25,600 or not and as often as not it's for DoF reasons rather than total light, as in shooting at f4 to f8 rather than wide and getting no depth. As I said it's not sometning I do all that often but I like the ability to be able to.

Just thought of something else that influences me, I like to be able to shoot faster than 1/8000 with a mechanical shutter.

Yep, size and weight.
I've had pretty good results from the xe1, so I'm not afraid of moving too a smaller sensor. I'm wondering if the move too m43 is a move to far?
