Potential new PC spec - want it to be a Lightroom Monster, and hopefully future proofed for 5 years or so - current PC is about 8 years old and after the most recent LR update has proven to be very wanting, so need an update.

Images will be on an internal 8TB spinning disc HDD

Any thoughts gratefully received

David

I have that case and am very happy with it.

I have a Z790 gigabyte board but with DDR4 ram

I think IMO there are two weak elements. I built mine last year and put an RTX3060 in it. The 3050 is AFAIK now discontinued and if building now I would hope to be able to afford a 4060 or 4070.

I installed a Corsair 850W PSU......but then I have more demanding components that includes 3 off HHDs by then my CPU is an i5 running at 65W compared to your i9 at 150W

I always put in larger capacity PSU as IMO best not to run it near peak output. It's internal fan will only run as demand goes above IIRC 350W and I have never knowingly heard it's fan.

Is your spec for a self build or the spec of a bespoke shop built one?

There are plenty of PSU calculators online. Just add all your bits n bobs, and they come up with a suggested rating. At least that way you have a baseline to start at. Don't forget to add a little headroom for additional components though, as I'm guessing, like everyone there's an upgrade to be wanted at some stage ;)

I have a fractal design R6. They do make nice cases (y)

any specific reason for power hungry old 12900KS? 14700K should run circles around it.

RAM should be paired up ideally, and 64GB total at that; and now the clock speeds could be a little higher to be mainstream DDR5. I have DDR4 though, and the only problem is only 32GB which definitely feels bogged down working with multiple 5Ds files.

You will get by with 3050 but I wonder why bother at all then... you have basic integrated graphics already

internal spinning NOISY HDD. just no, absolutely no, never ever.
