thread sizes

Morning all

i would just like some confirmation on the standard thread size for tripod fittings etc on the bottom of the majority of cameras.

i understand that its possible 1/4 diamater but what about the thread pitch.

reason i ask is that want some nuts and bolts for homemade brackets and my google fu is not so good this morning after working until the early hours last night/this morining

Yes. All cameras are 1/4in Whit, and most tripod platforms are 3/8ths. It seems arcane to use BSW but it's a good thread pitch and a lot of other stuff uses it - audio/lighting stands, fishing/shooting gear I think.

It's hard to get hold of though, but this guy supplies bits and bobs for classic British motorbikes and has made me a few custom bolts. Cheap and fast service - Mike Peters www.polished-stainless.com
