Three new Sigma lenses on the way

wonder why another 120-300 so soon?
 
yeah just had a google and see the focus problems, was thinking about px'ing my non os one, think i'll hang on for a bit now!
 
They certainly look the part. I am very interested in the 120-300, especially as they mention "improved mechanics". The optical formula and MFT charts look the same so IQ should be good, based on what others have said.

Funny how they've also made a product and a feature out of the QC issues regarding focus! Wonder how much the device will set one back, looks like a perfect rental item if it's more than £20-30.
 
Yea i like the sound of th 35mm
Even I have the l version

I like sigma
 
They look very Sony-ish.... sleek, modern and without that crackle-glaze finish that ends up flaking off. They all look like interesting lenses, if not exactly new ideas.....

Like with most premium sigma lenses I'd expect it to be very close performance wise but plenty cheaper which is why it's already on my wanted list!.the 35l is out of my price range and thr old f2 is a little clunky!

MTF looks promising, close to Canon and better than 50/1.4 of either company
I hope less than £550 is not just a wishful thinking; 50mm may as well go to fund this

edit: maybe not. 105mm OS is 80-90% of the L price. That would be a shame

Really surprised that theres a refresh of the 120-300 F2.8 already but its good news for me as the original was on the "hit list" of things to buy through next year so I'll definitely get the newer version if its even better than the original.
 
Does anyone know when the revamped 120 - 300 F2.8 will be on sale, Very interested in purchasing one of these.
 
Let's hope the 35 has less issues than the 50mm!! It does look sexy though.
 
I've never had any issues with my Siggy 50 or 85mm f1.4's :D

I had to go through 3 copies of the 50mm before I found the stunner of a copy...hence my concern with the new 35!
 
Oh dear. Sorry to hear that. Did you get your camera checked?

I ask as there is obviously a danger in going through multiple lenses to select lenses that match your camera if your camera is either out of tolorance or on the extreme of tolorance.

Personally I think I've been lucky. I've had four DSLR's (300D, 10D, 20D and 5D) and despite being very picky I've never had a Canon, Sigma or Tamron lens with any front/back focus issues.

No I haven't got my camera checked but tbh all my canon lenses are spot on so it was definitely a Sigma calibration issue.

And I would agree, you must be one lucky person not to have had any problems!! :lol:

Haha I hope it does solve all the issues people experience. They make mighty fine lenses so it's good that they're taking this step!

Maybe I just know how to use wide aperture lenses, not everyone does and I'm sure that's a large part of the problem.

I judge my Sigma lenses exactly as I judge any other. As for being lucky, the various reliability data that can be accessed on the net tends to agree with my view that much of the on line Siggy panic is user error and Chinese whispers.

This is certainly true to an extent - people are more likely to vent on the net about a negative experience much more than a positive one. Canon lenses have their fair share of problems too.

However, in my experience with the 50 it was nothing to do with user error. I can shoot at 1.4 on my 5D and my current Siggy 50 all day long and get sharp shots...not so with the previous 2 copies - the first misfocussed at different distances and the second was soft wide open.

To say you never had a problem with any third party lens is certainly lucky in my opinion.
 
I was watching forknowsphoto and he says they are only models at the min
 
The 35mm F1.4 is certainly a very interesting lens for me. If it is even close to the canon it will be a superb investment - especially as I'm adding a full frame camera to my lineup next year.

Without any brand pointing, some focus recompose techniques can result in poor focus, and that is the most obvious on close subjects. However shooting close to infinity no longer presents such challenge, and nor does the use of appropriate AF point, and AI-Servo on a reliable body.
In other words, there a a few people that know how to use their kit, and there are some real dog lens copies around. Also you have to consider, that some beginners mis-handling their kit can't spot soft or flawed imaged as easily, and many bad copies go unnoticed.
 
Im interested in the Sigma 120-300mm as I only have the kit lens which only takes me to 200mm - Im gona keep my eye on this one

Also keeping an eye out for the release of this, nearly bought the version thats out at the minute a couple of weeks ago. Sounds like great improvements on an already great lens. :)

Am so glad that you managed to see this announcement before your purchase.

Well happy I joined this forum, as its great hearing 1st hand experience & pros / cons of on things like this.

I'm definitely going to add this to my wish list :thumbs:
