Ok so following on from my post a few days ago about where you all buy your camera gear from...

I'm currently gathering research for my dissertation, which involves people taking photos of what Cornwall means to them. Lots of people have used digital cameras, but a fair few needed a disposable to record their findings on. So I've had to buy in bulk. I have no funding at all for this research so everything is coming out of my pocket (I spent my student loan on a 40D hehe :p )

I went into our local independent shop today with a shopping list of a camera case for my new compact and 10 single use cameras. The cameras were £6.99 each on the shelf, and the very nice guy in there took them down to £3.50 in the end with £3 off the camera case too :thumbs: Also I left with the promise that if I took all my single use cameras in to be processed, I'd have the processing down from £4.99 to £3.50, a big saving when you've got 20 of the buggers to process :lol:

I doubt I'd have got that kind of service from anywhere else, I could have sourced Boots own single use cameras for £3 each but the ones I bought today were Kodak, plus he knows I'll be going back to process with him now :cool:

So yes, hip hip horay for independent camera shops :clap:
 
We always try to use the local independant in our local town (swansea) to be fair he's pretty good on the prices and provides a service thats second to none.
True he's not quite as cheap as the web, but you get a professions quality service with blokes who actually know what they are doing and what they are selling, plus if you get any problems you know he'll sort it out, not play silly buggers like some places I could mention.
Personally I'd rather pay a bit more for peace of mind.
 
If it's service you want and "helpful & useful" advice, then you can't do better than a goo local independant shop. It pays (literally) to get to know them and become a loyal customer. A little extra on cost can be recouped in information and deals done later.
